Ok ok ok so it’s very very delayed but it’s been a wild couple of weeks since our concert at Rosa Parks Circle. Finally getting around to reliving all the videos and photos (thanks Green Frog )

End of semester showcases and concerts are always special, but this one was particularly unique. Being outside in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids, listening to motorcycles, rev by while our singers poured their hearts out, knowing everyone up on stage was stepping out of their comfort zone in someway or another, was just a truly special event to be a part of.

A big thank you to everyone who helped pull this event off, most especially to Matty Owen Jordyn Smith Mar in Color ✨ Singer | Songwriter | Coach 🎶 Alex Williams and Corie Lynn

These are just the snapshots - true highlights to come later!

Ever wondered where performers get their confidence?

we found that confidence tends to appear indirect correlation to the performer’s level of preparedness. Sure, knowing your music is a huge part of that! But on a deeper level, knowing your instrument plays perhaps the biggest role of all.

Our instructors will guide you step-by-step in getting to know your whole body as a part of your instrument. As you begin to understand what breathing, residence, registration, and articulation feel like in your voice, you’re going to be able to trust the sound that comes out so much more.

If you’re ready to stop stressing and finally be excited at your next performance gig, head over to the link in our bio and fill out the new membership inquiry now. Our fall semester is filling up quick!

See you in the studio soon!

In just a couple short days, GRVC singers will take the stage Rosa Parks Circle - trust us, you don’t want to miss this concert.

We’ve got an incredible variety of music to share with you: our singer/songwriters are ready to take you on a journey, our musical theater specialists have been utilizing ALL their vocal color to put together an incredible story, and you might even get a peak at our dear instructors stepping up to the mic (Mar in Color ✨ Singer | Songwriter | Coach 🎶 Jordyn Smith Matty Owen and Corie Lynn )

The best part, though, is that we’ll be accepting donations, 100% of which will go to the GR Rapid Response to ICE

We couldn’t be more excited for GRVC’s first benefit concert: it can be hard to feel as though one voice can make an impact when the great wide world is so full of chaos, deceit, division, discrimination, and death. Join us on Friday at 7pm and together we can raise our voices to impact our community here and now.

Hope we see you on Friday!

The vision was always to bring people in to learn to make artistic choices. To allow their true, unique voice to sound freely and fill our studio spaces with song, laughter, and discovery.

It’s an incredible feeling to watch the vision blossoming before our eyes.

Get ready with me: join me for my favorite warm up.

I’ve been dragging today so I wanted to start with some kazooing to get the breath moving and keep myself from manufacturing any sound. Once that was established, adding vowels came easily!

Time to check in on resonance tracking across vowels. Ngl, my ‘eh’ sound is always tricky for me here.

Mlang is one of my top-tier warm ups: it’s silly, and it gets the tongue moving!

Always need a little agility to keep things moving, and I love to end by coming back into my speech.

Phew, that was fast! What’s your favorite warm up?

Battling stage fright? Here’s a quick tip:

Notice where in your body you feel that fear start to creep in. Kat’s feeling it in her shoulders and neck, so we’ve given those muscles something to do: move! By giving them a task, we’re hoping to keep them from engaging in her OTHER task - breathing & singing!

The air is really starting to move more fluidly as she keeps this up, and that’s letting her have confidence and trust that the air will carry her sound, which in turn lets her release more in the neck and shoulders. What a gorgeous snowball effect!!

Need help managing YOUR performance energy? That’s what performance class is ALLLLL about. Fill out the new member inquiry today and find out what type of GRVC membership is right for you.

Ahh, breath support, the ol’ elephant in the room!

Watch as Zoe Behm and Matty Owen are unlocking it all in our latest Performance Class.

Figuring out breath support is not only understanding how to inhale, but learning how to control your exhale so you aren’t losing all of your air right at the onset of sound. By adding a small moment suspension right before she sings, Zoe is able to utilize her air more consistently throughout the phrase. This is helping her stay more in tune, enjoy an easier sense of resonance and projection, and pack more meaning in every word.

Great job, Zoe! Can’t wait to hear you in the studio again!
