Did you know?

Beginning in the 2027–2028 school year, Michigan's Public Act 146 requires districts to screen students for characteristics of dyslexia and other decoding difficulties. The law shifts the focus from reacting to reading difficulties to proactive prevention, early identification, and timely intervention, ensuring students receive the support they need before significant reading challenges develop.

The good news is that Kenowa Hills is already well-positioned to meet these requirements. Our comprehensive literacy assessment system includes:

Acadience Reading universal screening three times per year
Phonemic Awareness Screening to identify foundational literacy needs
Informal Decoding Inventory (IDI/MDI) to provide diagnostic information about students' phonics and decoding skills
These assessments do much more than identify students who may be at risk. They help us:

Pinpoint specific skill gaps to guide targeted instruction and intervention.
Monitor student progress over time.
Inform instructional decisions, professional learning, and schoolwide literacy supports.
