👽👽

What do you mean "Aliens" can save your voice? Hearrrrrrrr me out.

For some reason, big weather swings affect me. I guess I'm a delicate flower :) So I woke up super gunky and with a Basso Profundo voice today. While I love tapping into my Patrick Page vibes, I think I need a few Aliens to help me get back into Baritenor land.

If you've been around my work for a bit, you will know about the miracle of Aliens.

If not, here we go...

By Aliens, I mean clear harmonics present in your voice.

(...Because when you sustain a pitch and a clear harmonic with vibrato it sounds like a 1950s Martian movie spaceship, duh!)

I've found that holding sustained pitches while moving your tongue, lips, and jaw to elicit a clear harmonic seems to yield positive effects on the voice from...bringing up gunk, to adding more power, and stability, to adding more beauty and professional-level clarity to your voice.

The exercises are inspired by overtone singing techniques, made famous by YouTube sensation, Anna-Maria Hefele; and voice therapy-inspired techniques I learned from Kittie Verdolini, Joan Lader, Joseph Stemple, and others...

On the Twang Farm, you'll learn not only how to sing in different styles using Magic Words or Animal Characters but also how to make those sounds and shapes more stable, powerful, easy, and beautiful by adding Aliens on sustained pitches.

Here's a quick way to find them.

Step 1: Say the word "Ear" or "Rare" in slow motion on a sustained pitch in your speaking range.

Step 2: Notice that as you approach the /r/ (and perhaps as you slightly round the lips), you may hear what sounds like another "pitch" on top of the note you are sustaining. That's you amplifying a harmonic! If you can't hear it just yet, fearrrrrr not. See if you notice a tingling or buzzing sensation in the face or teeth as you do this. That's the spot!

Step 3: Hold the pitch with the clear harmonic for a few seconds, then try speaking or singing and notice the glory!

The impact of Aliens on our voices is a HUGE topic, and I hope you'll join us on the The Twang Farm to explore more. www.tomburkevoice.com
