Seven Sacred Heart Academy students were selected to attend the 11th Annual Armed Forces Day of Thanksgiving event. They were included in the crowd of 695, including 216 students from 54 local high schools and 200 military personnel. This year is the academy's sixth year of representation. The day consisted of an open house in Ab-Nab-Awen Park, outside the Gerald R. Ford Museum. Students were able to hold conversations with veterans and those currently serving in both the Armed Forces and local first responders. They attended an inspirational Q & A session in the Ford Museum Auditorium, with Marcus Luttrell of "Lone Survivor" fame. The Caledonia Pipes and Drums band escorted the group to the Marriott, where students enjoyed a ceremonial lunch with employees and veterans of corporate sponsors. The day concluded with another Q & A with Marcus Luttrell.

The event's mission is to raise awareness and dialogue on the contributions our military personnel have made and continue to make on behalf of our country. These students have already met to plan future events to honor or raise money for veterans and first responders.

Students representing our Catholic high schools joined service members and community leaders at the 11th annual Armed Forces Thanksgiving Salute, honoring the brave men and women of our military — past, present, and future. From the ceremony at the Ford Museum to the procession across the bridge, the day was a meaningful reminder of gratitude, sacrifice, and community.
