Familiar for many Africans in the diaspora and nearly everyone in Ghana and many parts of Africa, Sankofa is a word and a symbol that emphasizes the importance of looking back to the past to teach future generations. The egg represents the children, and the bird looks back to show reverence to our ancestors that we are learning from.
