✨ V is for Vocation ✨
Last week our teachers returned for their work week in preparation for the upcoming school year. 🙏

At Our Savior Lutheran School, we celebrate the vocation of teachers and we give thanks for the faithful men and women who serve the students and families of OSLS. Yet our Lutheran understanding of vocation goes even deeper: every one of us is called to serve faithfully in many stations of life — as husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, students, pastors, citizens, and more.

Classical Christian education helps students recognize that all these callings matter. Whether in the classroom, the home, the church, or the wider community, we are each invited to serve our neighbor with love and faithfulness right where God has placed us.

As we embark on this new school year, we invite our community to join us in praying for our teachers and the important vocation in which they serve.

✨ U is for Understanding ✨

True education goes far beyond memorizing facts.

At Our Savior Lutheran School, teachers, parents, coaches, and even older students work together to help young minds dig deeply into every subject. Through thoughtful instruction, field trips, and hands-on projects, we cultivate genuine understanding — the kind of deep learning that inspires students to strive for mastery and grow in wisdom.

Classical Christian education forms not just informed students, but thoughtful ones who truly understand what they study and how it points them toward Truth.

What subject has most recently sparked deeper understanding for your child?

✨ T is for Telos ✨

What is the true aim — the telos — of education?

At Our Savior Lutheran School, it is not simply memorizing facts or preparing students for a career. Classical Christian education seeks something far greater: forming disciples of Christ who know their deepest identity and purpose are found in Him.

We joyfully embrace our studies of math and history, science and literature, but always with our eyes fixed on the eternal. Every subject, every lesson, every day is ordered toward preparing students for a life of faithful discipleship — both now and forever.

This is education with an eternal end in view.

What do you believe is the true purpose of education?

✨ S is for Service ✨

Service is one of the clearest ways we reflect God’s love for us by loving our neighbors. ❤️

At Our Savior Lutheran School, we see it every day: older students helping younger ones, parent volunteers giving their time, congregation members supporting the school, students cleaning up campus, teammates cheering each other on, participation in chapel and worship, and the joyful sharing of music as a gift to others. These acts of service shape our school culture, where learning and service work hand in hand shape lives of purpose.

Classical Christian education trains not only sharp minds but hands ready to serve, just as Christ first served us.

How have you seen service in action at OSLS?

✨ R is for Reading ✨
From the first phonograms and the very building blocks of literacy to the joy of diving into great stories — reading is such an important part of what we do at Our Savior Lutheran School. 📖✨

We teach students to master the fundamentals so they can unlock the treasures of literature. Then we invite the whole community to share that joy together. Last year our all-school read of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader brought families, teachers, and students into the same story — laughing, wondering, and talking about courage, friendship, and faith across every grade.

Classical Christian education forms strong readers who not only decode words but delight in the rich stories that shape their hearts and minds for a lifetime.

What book has your family enjoyed reading together this summer?
