A New Blog is out!

For parents of children who learn differently, our instinct is to protect. We spend years stepping in as our child’s fiercest advocate—interpreting their frustrations, meeting with teachers, and ensuring their accommodations are being met.

But the ultimate goal of education isn’t just to help our kids survive the classroom; it’s to prepare them for life outside of it. Lake Michigan Academy’s school philosophy includes the art of self-advocacy.

Our 2026-2027 school year is quickly approaching, but there is still time to enroll!

We are “Two Programs, One Family,” working hand-in-hand to provide a transformative educational experience for West Michigan. Our purpose is to empower students with learning differences to thrive through specialized, student-centered instruction—whether in our full-day classrooms or through expert 1:1 tutoring.

At LMA, we move beyond the struggle—we empower students to lead with their brilliance and ensure they are never defined by their challenges.

A student's learning journey is not linear. As a parent, you do your best to help your child learn as best they can, and that may include a special environment. Finding that special environment is hard to do, but these parents explain the weight off of their shoulders as soon as it clicks.

LMA provides a different learning environment that keeps students interested and meets them where they are. Too often, learning moves forward whether students are ready or not. Our project-based learning and Orton-Gillingham-based lesson plans help students learn at their best, at their own pace.
