Turning Pages had the privilege of bringing early literacy information and strategies to the providers at Big Steps Little Feet Christian Early Learning and Nature Preschool. 💡Spot Light on Orton-Gillingham Materials: The Sand Tray
Using a sand tray engages multiple pathways for learning.
By writing letters in the sand while saying the letter's name and sound, students create a strong multisensory memory (visual, auditory, tactile and kinesthetic) which helps them retain and recall the information.

In October we celebrate Dyslexia Awareness Month. In this awesome interview with Orlando Bloom, he couldn't say it any better: "...If education is a challenge for a child with dyslexia, you need to understand how to educate them so that it isn't a challenge, so that it is FUN"
Here are ways that our Orton-Gillingham lessons make learning FUN for students:
🪄 Multisensory teaching involves using a student's whole body for concept retention with tactile, kinesthetic, auditory, and visual instruction.
⬆️Cumulative instruction begins by meeting a student where they are, then building on their knowledge and strengths.
🔍Explicit instruction: Each concept is taught in a hands-on way with a clear and direct explanation, that helps a student break down the language for reading and spelling success.
