Book rec from my friend Kat, tubist and librarian!
Public Services Librarian Kat recommends Skeleanor the Decomposer by Emily Ettlinger: "The scariest thing about teaching private music lessons is that the majority of people who have vowed to never touch music again, have done so because of an experience they had with a music teacher. This story follows a skeleton as she tries to impress a very good music teacher, scares the entire town, swears off music, and then is eventually recruited by the teacher for the town's festival band. They talk about what it means to play music-- for others and for yourself-- and through music, Skeleanor is able to connect with the town and share her favorite songs.
This book was so cute, and I recommend it soso much. Great for ages maybe 8-12 I think, but a wonderful feel-good read for anyone."
You can find Skeleanor the Decomposer in Holt's Juvenile Graphic Novel section in the kids room.

This summer, 19 of my students participated in a Composer Research Project, which included:
1) Setting individual practice goals (and achieving them!) each month
2) Researching a composer and creating a poster to present at Clark Retirement Community
3) Performing a piece by their composer for friends, family, and the residents of Clark
I am so proud of the dedication and hard work my students put into this project!

Last month, I received exciting news: two of my arrangements are featured on Sheet Music Direct’s Fleetwood Mac Playlist. Both are piano solos, one for “Songbird” and another for “Everywhere”. Excited to have my arrangements featured by the site! Thank you to Hal Leonard, ArrangeMe, and the Sheet Music Direct team!
