Greetings!
Last night at the GPISD School Board Meeting, the meeting was adjourned after Agenda Item 13 (Open Forum) & individual board members were not allowed the opportunity to give comments, expressions of thanks, congratulations, & condolences. As an Educational Practitioner & being voted into this role of SERVICE one of my main goals is to ALWAYS ensure that the students, staff, parents, and community of Grand Prairie ISD are heard, and I was unable to do so last night.
School is supposed to be a safe and positive environment for children to learn in, families to feel welcomed in, and for staff to work in, bottom line. There is NO place in GPISD for our scholars to be in a climate where they feel oppressed, unheard, inferior, discriminated upon, or disrespected! As your Board Trustee, (the only African American/Black Trustee currently sitting on this board)I am deeply saddened, heartbroken, and disappointed by the behaviors that have been displayed both on camera & off! It’s UNACCEPTABLE! It’s DISTURBING! It’s INTOLERABLE!
I would like to commend the staff, parents, students of Dubiski Career High School, Community Leaders, & the citizens of Grand Prairie who have stepped up & brought this dark situation to the light. I commend you all for standing up, for speaking up & letting the world know that racism in any form IS NOT OK! You all are the change that we want to see in the world and have reminded us that as a society we must get back to those core values in order for this world to be a better place.
I would like to sincerely apologize for the students who have had to endure this culture/climate that has adversely impacted your education or work environment. I want you to know that you are HEARD, you are LOVED, and I am here to stand in the gap to be a VOICE, and be apart of the SOLUTIONS to create a more safe, positive, non-discriminatory, cohesive, welcoming environment to learn in!
I will continue to put in the work to see that EQUITY & EXCELLENCE FOR ALL is the standard!
In Service,
