That's a wrap on August 💛 This last month of summer has flown by, and was filled with sunny skies, fascinating flowers, some magical nights of music, and craft of all kinds on campus.

It's always bittersweet when summer in the north begins to draw to a close, but we're grateful for the many memories made this season and the special community here in Grand Marais.

We're definitely not ready for winter yet...but we are ready for winter/spring courses to open for registration this week!

All courses from January-June 2027 open at 9am CT this Thursday, August 27! (Or August 26 for members.)

Introducing a brand-new theme week...Building Traditions: Tools and Techniques from Norway!

This May, we're excited to host our first-ever theme week featuring the traditional hand tools and building techniques of Norway, a land where wood has been the building material of choice for centuries.

We are thrilled to welcome a slate of talented featured instructors to lead nine unique courses focused on traditional building and toolmaking. They will share deep knowledge acquired from years of experience preserving the historic structures that dot the Norwegian countryside.

We have open spots in timber framing! Due to a cancellation, we have 2 new spots open in Fachwerk: German-Style Timber Framing, September 8-14. This class is open to beginners and to those with previous timber framing experience wanting to learn a new style.

Applications are open for January-June 2027 extended Work Study sessions!

Work Study gives people the chance to help out around the North House campus while earning course tuition credit. Lodging is provided and participants have the option to take coursework during their stay.

We built a yurt yesterday! Our 2026 interns spent a beautiful day building a yurt outside their home, with help from instructor Ian Andrus. The yurt will be a dedicated crafting space for the interns, where they can work on their personal craft projects throughout the seasons!
