Burt Township School is thrilled to announce the launch of a brand-new Career and Technical Education (CTE) program this school year, made possible through our partnership with MEERA (Manufacturing and Engineering Education Reimagined for All).

This entirely grant funded program brings real, hands-on learning into our classrooms, giving students the chance to explore manufacturing and engineering skills. From working with 3D printers and CNC machines to learning precision tools like calipers, students will do more than watch and listen. They'll build, design, code, and create, discovering firsthand how the things around them are made.

Why does this matter? Because students can only pursue the paths they know exist. By opening the door to manufacturing and engineering careers now, we're helping our young people see new possibilities for their futures and make more informed decisions about where they want to go. Whether a student dreams of engineering, design, or a hands-on career they haven't even discovered, this program helps them see themselves in that future.

We're proud to bring this opportunity to the Polar Bear community and can't wait to watch our students engage, explore, and grow.

In rural communities like ours, the school is more than a building. It is a gathering place, a keeper of memories, and a promise passed from one generation to the next. The senior class photos on display, stretching all the way back to 1937, tell the story of families who worked hard for their children and refused to let this town fade.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Grand Marais Historical Society for their dedication and collaboration in preserving the Grand Marais legacy. Burt Township School is deeply grateful for this partnership and is proud to be part of this town's legacy.

As an out-of-formula district, Burt doesn't follow the state per-pupil counts. That means this institution may teach many or few, and still it will continue to do what it has always done: educate, uplift, and endure. Burt has been and will continue to be the "heart" of the Grand Marais community by helping keep young families rooted, giving children a future, and honoring the hard-working people who make up our community.

If you're a graduate, a teacher/staff member (past or present), our Historical Society would love to hear from you. Stop by the exhibit near the Pickle Barrel garden, share a memory in their guest book, and help us keep our history alive. Go Polar Bears!

ONE WEEK OUT

Help us manage invasive species at Coast Guard Point in Grand Marias. We will be pulling invasive spotted knapweed and baby's breath from the shores of Coast Guard Point July 13th through the 16th. These invasives are more than just an eyesore; they threaten the endangered and threatened species living at this beach. Pitcher's Thistle, Lake Huron Tansy, and Piping Plover are all endangered and threatened species at risk of being outcompeted by invasive plants.

You can join us in removing the invasive plants. Come for as long as you are comfortable, whether that is a full day or just a few hours; every bit helps. You can sign up to volunteer at https://algercd.com/event-calendar/ola/services/volunteeropportunity-invasive-species-management-at-coast-guard-point or email Lani at [email protected]
