NEW CLASS! - "Applied Music Theory" is a fun new six-week course offered by the Roth Academy of Music for anyone who wants to learn how music theory skills can help them be a better performer, improve their musicianship, or even explore songwriting. If you are a musician and you have always wanted to understand music theory but found online materials confusing and didn’t understand how music theory relates to you, our instructor can help show you how theory principles can be applied to your unique music goals whether they are professional or just for fun.

For the first time in a while we have some open spots with our percussion/drum instructor Nick!

Nick has a degree in jazz studies from Michigan State University. He is a recording artist, plays in multiple jazz and alt rock groups, and teaches music in the Holt Public School System. He can help with students who are interested in playing the drum kit for any reason or students who want to stay brushed up on their school band skills over the summer. Woodwind Band Students! Do you want to keep practicing and progressing over the summer?

Our friendly and knowledgable staff of woodwind instructors have openings now and throughout the summer! Our bassoon, oboe, flute, and saxophone instructors all have degrees in music performance and/or music education from MSU and are ready to work with you to advance your skills and improve your sound. We accept all levels from beginners to high school college prep and are open all summer. Located in Grand Ledge! The Roth Academy of Music is excited to offer this popular art class for 8-12 year-olds again! This fun group class is designed to introduce kids to a mixed media approach with varying subjects while encouraging experimentation and decision making in art. This 4-week course will have students working on techniques that may include drawing, watercolor, sculpture, collage, and more. No Experience necessary. Taught by Emma Everts (MSU). Tuition is $55 and includes materials.

CHRISTOPHER MINAMI: Christopher completed his undergraduate degree in both classical and jazz guitar at Florida State University’s College of Music in Tallahassee and is currently working on his Master’s in Jazz Studies at Michigan State University. Christopher has a lot of performance experience including working with the FSU Jazz Ensemble, the Jazz Honors Band, the Tallahassee Symphony Jazz Orchestra and the MSU Jazz Ensemble. He is currently a graduate assistant at the Michigan State University College of Music teaching improvisation. He has been honored to receive numerous awards for both classical and jazz guitar including the prestigious Florida Guitar Festival and Competition. He has taught private lessons in Florida and has been on staff the last year with the Roth Academy of Music where he teaches both guitar and Ukulele. He loves showing his many students the versatility of the guitar and helping them make new discoveries in music. Christopher enjoys working with students of all ages and all musical taste, from young beginners to adult’s looking to expand their skills. He is also an avid record collector and loves to fish.

The Roth Academy of Music has moved!

We are in the same building at 820 Charlevoix Drive in Grand Ledge, but now are located a little to the east in Suite 200. More rooms means more opportunities to bring great teachers to Grand Ledge. We'll post pictures when we get more settled in.
