✈️ Let’s Talk Aviation Safety, Grand Junction!

Great pilots never stop learning, and we’re excited to bring our local aviation community together for an upcoming FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam) seminar right here at Colorado Flight Center!

Join us for Angle of Attack Awareness, an informative session focused on understanding angle of attack, recognizing stall conditions, and how this knowledge can help pilots make safer, more informed decisions in the cockpit.

Whether you’re a student pilot, an experienced aviator, or somewhere in between, there’s always something valuable to learn when it comes to aviation safety.

There’s something special about a community that comes together over a shared love of aviation. ✈️💙

This past weekend at the grandjunctionairshow was a perfect reminder of just how incredible that community is!

From meeting aspiring pilots and aviation enthusiasts to reconnecting with familiar faces and sharing stories with people from all walks of life, our CFC crew had an absolute blast being part of it all.

One of our favorite things about events like these is seeing how aviation brings people together. Whether you’ve been flying for decades, are dreaming of becoming a pilot, or simply love looking up when you hear an airplane overhead, there’s a place for you in this community. 🛩️

To everyone who stopped by to say hello, shared a conversation with our team, or helped make this weekend so memorable — THANK YOU!

And a huge shoutout to the organizers, volunteers, performers, and everyone who worked behind the scenes to bring such an incredible event to life.

Grand Junction, you sure know how to make a crew feel welcome! We’re grateful for the memories, the connections, and the opportunity to be part of something so special.

🍂✈️ Fall is in the air…and that means a few changes in the cockpit, too!

As we head into a new season, here are a few reminders to keep your fall flying safe, smooth, and productive:

🌅 Watch those daylight hours. The days are getting shorter, so keep sunset times and night currency in mind when planning your flights.

🌡️ Expect changing conditions. Cooler mornings, warmer afternoons, and shifting winds can make fall weather a little unpredictable. Check those forecasts and leave yourself options.

📚 Stay ahead of your training - and the calendar! Fall can get busy quickly with school, work, travel, and the upcoming holidays. Take a look at your schedule now and plan lessons ahead when you can. Staying consistent helps keep skills fresh and can prevent holiday breaks from slowing down your training momentum.

🛫 Give the airplane a thorough preflight. Seasonal temperature changes are a good reminder to pay close attention to tire pressure, fluids, battery condition, and anything else that deserves an extra look.

🧥 Plan for the unexpected. As temperatures drop, consider what you’re wearing and carrying—not just for the cockpit, but for where you’d be if you had to spend some unexpected time outside.

A new season is a great time to refresh good habits. Fly smart, stay prepared, and enjoy those beautiful fall views from above! 🍁

✈️ Flying Colorado National Monument? Here are a few things student pilots should be thinking about. 👇👇👇

One of the best parts of learning to fly in western Colorado is that some pretty incredible views can also come with valuable lessons.

A flight around Colorado National Monument is a great example. While you’re taking in the scenery, there’s a lot happening from a pilot’s perspective:

⛰️ Terrain awareness: Pay attention to the terrain around you and think ahead about your altitude, route, and available options.

🌡️ Density altitude: Higher elevations and warmer temperatures can have a noticeable effect on aircraft performance. Know how the conditions will affect your airplane before you depart.

💨 Wind: Airflow around ridges, canyons, and uneven terrain can create conditions you may not experience flying over flatter areas. Always consider what the winds are doing, not just at the airport, but along your route.

🌤️ Weather: Colorado weather can change quickly. Building the habit of looking at the bigger weather picture is an important part of becoming a confident pilot.

🧭 Visual navigation: Put those pilotage skills to work! Prominent terrain features, roads, rivers, and landmarks can all help you build a better mental picture of where you are.

Most importantly: don’t let a beautiful view take your attention away from flying the airplane. Good situational awareness means enjoying what’s outside while staying ahead of the aircraft.

That’s what makes flying in Colorado such an incredible classroom. You’re not just learning maneuvers - you’re learning how terrain, weather, aircraft performance, and decision-making all come together in the real world.
