Research on NBCOT Exam Prep Seeking New Grads!

Dear Colleagues,

I am Bridget Hahn, OTD, OTR/L, Assistant Professor and Director of Admissions in the Occupational Therapy Doctorate program at Rush University. I am writing to request your assistance in recruiting participants for a national study on NBCOT exam preparation strategies and outcomes, which is being conducted with three OTD student co-investigators.

We are seeking OT Masters and Doctoral graduates who have taken the NBCOT exam at least once between January 2024 and the present. The survey takes approximately 10–15 minutes and examines academic background, program preparation, and individual study strategies in relation to first-attempt outcomes. All responses are completely anonymous, and no program-identifying information is collected.

We are especially hoping to hear from graduates who did not pass on their first attempt, as their experiences are critically underrepresented in literature and central to this work.

We would be grateful if you would share the link below with your recent graduates. A note from a trusted program director carries real weight in encouraging participation.

New job posting!

My name is Nate Arismendez, and I am the Assistant Director of Physical Medicine at Northwest Texas Healthcare System in Amarillo, TX. We are a 495-bed Level II Trauma hospital that services the Texas Panhandle, Oklahoma Panhandle, parts of Kansas, and New Mexico. Our Physical Medicine Department spans many areas within the hospital including acute care, our 24-bed inpatient rehab unit, and 4 outpatient facilities. We have 3 open positions in our department that I would like to share information about.

We currently have 2 full-time Occupational Therapist positions available in the acute care setting at our hospital. Our acute care team sees patients on our Med-Surg, Medical ICU, Surgical ICU, and Cardiology floors. We see a wide range of patients, ranging from high acuity, strokes, generalized weakness, post-operative patients, etc. Our acute OTs do mostly evaluations with some treatments and re-evaluations as needed. These positions are Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm.

We also have an opening for a full-time OT in our Stroke Certified Inpatient Rehab Unit. Our OT team collaborates extensively with other therapy disciplines, our rehab nursing team, and our Medical Director to provide the highest quality of care possible. The schedule for this position is four 10-hour shifts weekly.

Right now, we are offering a $15K sign-on bonus for new graduates and a $20K sign-on bonus for OTs with at least 1 year of experience. Both bonuses require a 2-year commitment. All three OT positions are have a weekend rotation that requires 1 weekend worked every 3 months and 1 major holiday every 2-3 years.
