A non-traditional Kenpo school that focuses on a mixture of striking and grappling. Grand Valley Kenpo Karate utilizes a 3,000 sqft training facility and offer beginner and advanced classes, private or group classes. Children and youth classes: 3-12 years old
Adult classes: 13+

There are moments as an instructor that hit you a little differently, and last night was one of them.

I met Leyton when he was just 5 years old. Last night, at 20, I had the privilege of watching him earn his Junior Black Belt.

Fourteen years. Almost his entire childhood spent working toward this one goal.

That’s pretty incredible when you really think about it. Very few people can say they dedicated that much of their childhood to one thing and stayed with it long enough to see it through.

Black belt isn’t just about perfection or remembering material. It’s about pushing yourself when you’re not feeling it, when you’re burned out, frustrated with your growth, or when a hundred other things in life seem more fun than grinding it out on the mats.

It’s about building a foundation that teaches you how to dedicate yourself to something, even when the goal feels impossible or too hard to reach. That lesson goes far beyond martial arts.

A journey like this takes a village. Supportive parents, instructors, training partners, friends and family all helped him along the way. But most importantly, it took a level of dedication that only Leyton could provide.

I’ve had the privilege of watching him grow up on these mats, and I couldn’t be more proud of the young man he has become.

Congratulations, Leyton. Fourteen years of work, and you earned every bit of it.
