Recent graduate Wylee Mitchell is leaving CMU with more than a degree, she's leaving with two Heartland Emmy Awards. 👏

Mitchell, who earned a degree in Mass Communication and a technical certificate in Digital Filmmaking, was recognized by The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Heartland Chapter for her short films Pearson Family Ranch and Life of a Ranch Kid.

Inspired by her upbringing in ranching and agriculture, Mitchell's award-winning films showcase the power of storytelling and highlight the people, traditions, and values that shape Western life.

Award-winning journalism starts with great storytelling, and sometimes being in the right place at the right time. 📸

Colorado Mesa University's student newspaper, The Criterion, earned three Society of Professional Journalists Region 9 awards this year, with recent Aviation Technology graduate Enrique Quintero’s photo “Western Slope Wildfires” going on to win a national SPJ Mark of Excellence Award in General News Photography.

The award-winning image captured a fire bomber dropping retardant on the Turner Gulch Fire during the summer of 2025, showcasing the power of visual storytelling and the talent of CMU student journalists.

What started as a campus visit from the Chicago suburbs turned into four years of leadership, service, and finding a place to call home. 🫶

This spring, Davis School of Business graduate Lindsey Schultz crossed the commencement stage after making her mark across campus as a Student Ambassador, Mesa Experience Coordinator, Student Ambassador President, Student Trustee, and Gamma Phi Beta chapter president.

Along the way, she helped future Mavericks discover CMU, represented student voices at the highest levels of university leadership, and found a passion for connecting with people.

“Everyone here inspired me to be the best person I could be. I feel so thankful for everything here and everything it has given me.”
