🌱 STEAM in Action: Our First Friday Design Challenges! 🌎♻️

On September 11, our Mesa View Hawks wrapped up and presented their first Friday Design Challenges of the school year!

🌳 K–2: Design a Green Space
Our younger Hawks became community designers, imagining parks and green spaces that would make their communities better. They planned their ideas and then brought them to life by building their own dioramas.

♻️ 3rd–5th: Sustainability
Our older Hawks explored the question, “How can I be sustainable?” Students created artwork using recycled materials or designed posters showing ways we can make more sustainable choices in everyday life.

Students spent several weeks moving through the design process—brainstorming, planning, creating, revising, and finally presenting their designs to Principal Cohen.

This is one example of what STEAM looks like at Mesa View. Adding STEAM to our school name isn't just about adding more science or technology. It's about giving students opportunities to design, create, solve problems, collaborate, experiment, and turn their ideas into something real.

Our Friday Design Challenges, MakerSpace, 3D printing, last week's Career Day, and our work to rebuild our outdoor classroom better than ever are just a few of the ways we're growing those opportunities for every Mesa View Hawk.

🦅 Career Exploration at Mesa View! 🐟🌲

Today, our K–5 Hawks participated in our first Career Day of the year, exploring careers connected to Colorado Parks & Wildlife!

Through hands-on activities, students explored the work of aquatic biologists, fish hatchery technicians, park rangers and wildlife officers, wildlife managers, and terrestrial biologists. They investigated fish and wildlife, solved real-world scenarios, and used observation, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Career exploration helps our students discover possibilities, make connections, and see how STEAM skills are used in the real world.

What a great day of learning and exploring for our Hawks! ❤️🤍🖤
