On April 9th, CMU is celebrating its 96th birthday during our annual Day of Giving. I am participating in the day and have created a campaign to raise funds for the CMU SHRM Student Chapter! We have the opportunity to win two bonuses. Whichever campaign has the most donors at noon on April 9th receives a $250 bonus and the one with the most donors at the end of the 24 hours receives a $5000 bonus. Wouldn’t it be great if this campaign could win?!

How's your mental health these days?

People REALLY get uncomfortable when we start talking about mental health in the workplace, but SHRM is working to change the dialogue. As HR professionals, we are the person in our organization most likely to be asked to assist employees who have mental health needs that may or may not be impacting their work.

I'm going to challenge you to look through these resources with three distinct points of view that you must learn to develop to be successful in HR:

Self- How can these resources be of personal assistance to me? Which of them do I want to know more about for my own personal wellness? If I found myself in a crisis situation would I know what to do and whom to contact for help?

Others- How can these resources be of assistance to friends, classmates, and others who live and work in CMU communities? If I found another student in a crisis situation would I know who to direct them to and/or contact for help?

Community- What is the impact of these resources on the CMU community and the community at large? Are they good enough? What can be improved upon? Are students using them? What do they cost the university?

Do you have other great resources and/or tips to help students deal with stress and mental health?
