A rainbow baby is a baby born after loss. The rainbow doesn't erase the storm. It exists because of it. Joy and grief can live in the same heart at the same time and often do.

If you are raising a rainbow baby, expecting one, or still waiting for yours: you are seen.

Mommy wrist doesn't exist in isolation.

It's part of a larger pattern of postpartum upper body strain. The wrists, the shoulders, the neck, the upper back. All connected. All responding to the same repetitive positions of holding, feeding, and caring for a newborn day after day.

The good news is that small intentional adjustments make a real difference. A nursing pillow. A change in how you lift. A few minutes of movement each day.

You don't have to accept the discomfort as just part of motherhood. It's common. It's not normal. And it's worth addressing.

I wish someone had told me about Mommy's wrist before I had my first baby.

This pain in my wrists was so significant that I could barely hold my new baby at times during early postpartum. I don't want any other mama to experience that!

So now I tell every new mama, take care of your body when you're nursing and holding your baby. Small adjustments to the positions you use most often can significantly reduce the strain that builds up over weeks and months of new parenthood.

Our society is not set up to support breastfeeding. And it's worth saying that plainly.

Most of my friends had to return to work within three months and had to pump to continue. Pumping while working full time is a significant physical and logistical undertaking that doesn't get nearly enough acknowledgment.

I also know that not long ago formula didn't exist. Families relied on wet nurses or donor milk when breastfeeding wasn't possible. Donor milk is still available today, though we don't live in a society where your village can easily offer it the way they once could.

However you're feeding your baby, you're doing it within a system that doesn't make any of it easy. That context matters.

The effort counts. Always.

Breastfeeding is one of those topics that comes with a lot of opinions.

Here's one thing I want every new mama to know: support is the single biggest factor in how your journey goes. Not willpower. Not dedication. Support.

Rest is not a reward for finishing everything.

It is part of the work. And in the postpartum season it is part of recovery. Not a nice-to-have. A biological necessity.

But most of us have been conditioned to feel guilty about it. Like stopping means falling behind. Like resting while the laundry piles up is somehow failing.

It isn't.

Your nervous system needs regular opportunities to fully switch off. And it doesn't require a perfect quiet house or a two-hour nap to get there. It just requires permission.

Legs up the wall while baby naps next to you. A supported recline during tummy time. Five slow intentional breaths before you get out of bed. Lying down with your eyes closed even if sleep doesn't come.

These count. All of them count.

Give yourself permission to let them.

Most of us spend our days in a low-grade state of activation. Not in crisis. Just never fully at rest.

Screens, to-do lists, background noise, the mental load of new parenthood. All of it keeps the nervous system gently on. And a nervous system that never fully switches off doesn't recover the way it needs to.

Restorative yoga exists specifically to change that. Full blog post on the link in bio.

Postpartum recovery starts with breath. Not crunches. Not cardio. Not a return to your pre-pregnancy routine.

Breath.

The same diaphragmatic breathing we practiced throughout pregnancy is your foundation for rebuilding from the inside out. Everything else comes after.

I came back from my first postpartum stronger than I went into pregnancy.

Not because I hustled my way back. Because I was intentional about rebuilding from the inside out. I saw a pelvic floor PT (Becky Montag) around my six week appointment, did the exercises she gave me consistently, and took the long view.

The proof for me was getting back into arm balances and inversions through Yogi Flight School | Arm Balance Training Crow pose felt more effortless than it ever had before. That deep core connection was doing its job.

This isn't a story about getting your body back. It's a story about building something stronger than what was there before.
