Meet Kourtney! She is a CMU student studying Agriculture Science's!

Out of 60 plus applicants she was 1 of 6 chosen to be a part of the Water Fellow's program here at CMU! Her love for agriculture, the environment and our limited resources is one of the many reasons we are proud to have people like her advocating for agriculture!

A note from her- "My name is Kourtney, and I’m studying Agricultural Science here at CMU. I’m passionate about the future of agriculture and finding ways to support farming and ranching practices that protect and restore our natural resources, especially soil and WATER. I believe agriculture plays an important role in creating a more sustainable future, and I’m very excited to learn more about water conservation, represent agriculture in these conversations, and develop the skills to make a meaningful impact on the Western Slope and throughout Colorado. I look forward to being part of conversations that help bridge agriculture and conservation and contribute to a future where both can thrive!"

Blake’s got tricks!!!

The first day of 𝑪𝒂𝒍𝒗𝒆𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑴𝒂𝒗𝒔 was a hit!!! We love any opportunity to bring agriculture awareness to our CMU community! Today so many people and students got to see and to̲u̲c̲h̲ cows for the first time!!!

You never know what fun, hands on experiences you’ll get when you come to CMU Tech campus!

Thanks Radar Rope Horses for letting us borrow your calves for the day! And the IRIS team for such a fun idea and opportunity to collaborate!

We’ve been busy learning, exploring, and connecting with some incredible people in agriculture! 🤠

🌱 Megan Cassidy with Fruita Coop — Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with our students! Your passion for agricultural advocacy and perseverance in the business aspect of agriculture are truly inspiring. It’s incredible for our students to see the many ways they can make an impact in this industry!

🍑 Chicken Grit Farms — Thank you for welcoming us for a farm tour and treating us to some delicious peaches! Learning about your journey into agriculture, your purpose, and your outside-the-box thinking helps open doors and create opportunities for the next generation of first-generation farmers and ranchers. We appreciate you sharing your story with us!

🌾 And the learning doesn’t stop there! 🌾

Our students have been busy in the classroom, too! From learning about livestock medications in Livestock Production to digging deep into the foundation of all agriculture—SOIL—in Crop Production, there’s never a dull moment in CMU Ag! 🐂🌱🚜 And that’s just the beginning of all the hands-on learning happening across our program!

🐮 So, what does CMU Ag have in store for next week?

You might just catch a few calves on the CMU Tech campus during Calves for Mavs on October 13th & 14th! 👀🐄

One of the best parts of studying agriculture is learning from the people who live and breathe it every day. We’re grateful for the industry partners, local producers, and community members who help bring agriculture to life for our students!

🌾 GUEST SPEAKER SERIES — MEGAN CASSIDY 🌾

Our next guest speaker is one you do not want to miss!

Megan Cassidy is more than a CMU alumna — she is a force in the agriculture industry.

As the Vice President of the Fruita Coop, Megan has built an impressive career in an industry that has traditionally been male-dominated. Through hard work, determination, leadership, and a passion for agriculture, she has climbed her way to the top and continues to make an impact across the Western Slope.

And her accomplishments don’t stop there! Megan is an active leader in both her community and the agriculture industry, serving on boards and committees and supporting organizations including Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers and the Mesa County CattleWomen’s Association.

Megan’s story is one of leadership, perseverance, agriculture, and making your own path and we are excited to hear about her journey, the challenges she has faced and the experiences that have shaped her career.

From some great field trips to and incredible guest speaker the CMU Ag students were busy!!!!

Thank you David with Bioregenesis for coming to class to share your knowledge and expertise!! Helping students understand that agriculture is built from the ground up, 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆!!! Healthy soils is at the base of growing anything!

Students also toured around the some different equipment and implements. They even learned how to attach a PTO!! Shout out to our strong women of agriculture!!! 💪🏻

Providing these hands on experiences and networking opportunities is just one of the reasons we love this program!!!

A big THANK YOU to Charles Talbott of Talbott's C***r Company for coming to visit with our CMU Tech Agriculture students! 🍎

One of the things that makes our Agriculture program special is the opportunity for students to learn from people who are actively working across all areas of agriculture and agribusiness. From production agriculture to specialty crops, livestock, technology, marketing, and everything in between, these firsthand experiences help our students connect what they learn in the classroom to the real world.

This community involvement is at the heart of what we’re building. Our program is committed to developing meaningful relationships with the industry and our agricultural community so our students can learn from experienced professionals, build connections, and gain a better understanding of the opportunities available to them.

That aligns directly with CMU’s mission as a Human Scale University:

To “…form meaningful and mutually enriching partnerships that support the well-being and vibrancy of our community.”

We are proud to bring our community into the classroom and give our students opportunities to learn from the people who are helping shape agriculture today. This firsthand knowledge is one of the things that sets our Agriculture program apart!
