Branding season is more than just getting a job done โ€” itโ€™s a tradition deeply rooted in the agriculture industry and the western way of life. Itโ€™s a time of year families, neighbors, and friends look forward to, gathering together to work hard, share stories, and carry on traditions passed down from the original cattle ranchers who built this lifestyle.

In these photos, you can see Shawnee Sagers, our Ag Professor, helping at a local branding. Giving back and supporting our agricultural community is so important, especially because these communities continually support us in return. The agriculture industry thrives because of people willing to lend a hand, show up for one another, and keep these traditions alive for the next generation. ๐Ÿ‚

Agriculture Marketing had the final project of an โ€œinvestor pitchโ€ where they were asked to build a portfolio and give a 15-30 minute presentation on their business concept. The students did an outstanding job and based on this I am excited about the

We had 3 amazing investors from the community and their feedback was invaluable to these students. This is just one of many ways that CMU Ag connects to the community and helps provide real world learning experiences!

A shout out to our investors Joseph with JR's Carriage Service, Cindy with 2XL Beef and Brandon Edwards, the Voice of Western Colorado (as President Marshall would say) and the CMU Rodeo Team head coach!

The sunshine has us outside doing what we loveโ€ฆ getting into the garden during Plant Propagation class. Thereโ€™s no better classroom than fresh air and soil!

Students are learning hands-on techniques like layering, grafting, cuttings, and even tissue culture, just a few of the many ways we can โ€œcloneโ€ plants and grow new life. ๐ŸŒฟ

From roots to shoots, these skills are building the next generation of growers, problem-solvers, and agricultural leaders.

Our Live Animal & Carcass Evaluation class had an incredible day out at the Pearson Farm! ๐Ÿ„

Students had the opportunity to reinforce their knowledge from the classroom of cattle and breeding operations, spend time with baby calves, and even enjoy a ride on the pickupโ€”definitely a highlight!

Experiences like these bring the classroom to life, and we are so grateful for community partners who make it possible. A huge thank you to brady.pearson.988 and Razor Creek Beef LLC for opening your gates and investing in our studentsโ€™ learning!

Learning from others experiences is one of many opportunities we try to provide in the CMU Ag program. One experience we had the privilege of learning about was Janie VanWinkle and the fires last summer. Hearing this story was a great wrap up to our fire mitigation section of Facilities Management and Design.

Thank you Janie for sharing your story! You can learn more about ag and her experiences by following her page Janie VanWinkle-See Jane Ranch!

Hi everyone! Iโ€™m excited to introduce myself as the new Technical Instructor of Agriculture at CMU Tech

I recently made the move from Utah, where I worked at Snow College supporting students as an academic advisor and helping grow both the agriculture and equine programs. I also had the opportunity to teach in the communication department, which strengthened my passion for connecting with students and helping them succeed.

My goal here at CMU Tech is to provide as many hands-on learning experiences as possible while keeping our program up-to-date and aligned with current industry standards. Iโ€™m committed to helping students develop the practical, in-demand skills they need to succeed in the agriculture industry.

Outside of the classroom, you can usually find me roping and rodeoingโ€”especially team roping. I also stay involved in the industry by helping train and operate a performance horse program that focuses on developing quality team roping horses.

Thank you to the community for the warm welcome and this amazing opportunity. Iโ€™m excited to be here and canโ€™t wait to see what CMU Ag grows into!

Thank you Danny and Barb for letting us come to your place for a learning experience! We had a great time learning about sheep, with an added bonus of the baby goats! ๐Ÿ‘

It is because of amazing community members that CMU Ag gets to provide hands on learning experiences like these!!!

Thanks!
