Joshlyn, a joint and UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences MD student, just completed her Applied Practice Experience at Turtle Mountain Recovery Center. Well done!

Earlier this month, Turtle Mountain Recovery Center recognized Joshlyn Resek as she completed her graduate practicum with us.

Joshlyn is pursuing her Master of Public Health and Doctor of Medicine degrees at the University of North Dakota. With a specialization in Indigenous Health, she chose to complete her project with an organization serving an Indigenous community.

During her time at TMRC, Joshlyn contributed to several important projects supporting staff education and organizational development. She researched training opportunities, helped develop educational resources and policies, and shared recommendations that will support our continued growth.

Originally from Hayward, Wisconsin, Eliana is taking an exciting next step by joining an Ojibwe language immersion program, where she'll strengthen her language skills with the goal of one day communicating public health information in the Ojibwe language.

🎓Congratulations to Sarala on earning her Master of Public Health with a specialization in Population Health Research & Analytics later this week! 🎓

Originally from Nepal, Sarala is passionate about advancing population health through research, with a focus on cardiovascular disease prevention, cancer prevention, and women's health. Her goal is to become a leader in population health and help improve health outcomes through evidence-based public health practice.

: Sarala was a competitive sprinter through grade 10, consistently placing second or third in races. Although she no longer competes, she remembers those times fondly.🏃‍♀️🏁

🎓 Congratulations to Emily on graduating this coming Friday with her Master of Public Health, specializing in Indigenous Health!🎓

Originally from South Hero, Vermont, Emily plans to take a well-earned breath before focusing on what matters most—being the best mom she can be to her two-year-old son, Gabe. Looking ahead, she hopes to support Indigenous and ecological health and land-based healing initiatives, while staying connected to the land and the work she loves.

Congratulations to faculty Dr. Andrew Williams, Public Health at North Dakota State University faculty Dr. Ramona Danielson and student Michael Osei on their recent paper!

In their analysis of the 2020–2021 PRAMS COVID 19 supplement, they found that nearly half of pregnant women experienced high levels of household stress, more than one third struggled to access basic prevention supplies, and over 11% faced housing instability.

These burdens were concentrated among Black, Hispanic, and American Indian/Alaska Native women, reflecting long standing structural inequities.

Public health emergency response strategies must better account for the social conditions shaping maternal health. Strengthening social support infrastructure (housing stability programs, childcare access, mental health integration, and guaranteed prevention resources) should be core components of future public health emergency planning.
