We had a great Veterans Day week at UND! 🇺🇸 We finished ours off by enjoying some great art from the artists at Arts for Vets. President Armacost issued the Colonel Eugene Myers President’s Award to Richard Hopkins, for his painting, Ascension. He also announced 3 Director’s awards! (Noted below) All 4 pieces will be added to our collections thanks to generous funding from the Myers Foundations. Thanks to all who celebrated with us and that you to our Veterans for the service. We are grateful for you!

We recently learned of the passing of Dr. Art Jones, founding Director of UND Art Collections. Art began UNDAC over a decade ago when he realized that after years of UND collecting art the collections weren’t being properly cared for or utilized. He rallied for support to start the department and curated many fun exhibitions featuring collection highlights, historical works, and even an exhbition that focused solely on missing pieces of work — some of those pieces were found thanks to that show! He was relentless in his passion for art and acquired a large estate for the collections that ended up containing prints by Marcel Duchamp, Henri Matisse, Wassily Kandinsky, and more. He also began the living art museum project which included our partnership with the Empire Arts Center. Today more than 1,000 pieces of art grace the walls of our campus buildings and UNDAC is a vibrant hub for all things visual art. His legacy of art appreciation will forever be felt at UND. Our condolences to all who knew and loved him.
