We’re highlighting the CNPD advisors who help our CNPD students find their path, make connections and work toward their goals. 💚 First up is Jessica Parlato! 💚

Jessica Parlato, Academic Advisor & Recruitment Specialist in Nursing, is passionate about helping students recognize their potential and supporting them through both their proudest moments and biggest challenges.

Before joining UND, Jessica spent eight years as a school counselor. Today, she brings that same spirit of advocacy to CNPD, helping nursing students make connections, find resources and navigate their academic journey.

“I love working at UND because it is a wonderful place to make connections with other students, professionals, and resources.”

When she’s not cheering on students, Jessica stays busy with the gym, the outdoors, concerts with her husband and her “slight” obsession with Corgis. 🐶 She’s also a proud girl mama!

We’re glad to have Jessica helping our students find their path at CNPD! 💚

Every nurse remembers their first day in scrubs. 💚

For these 2026 fall semester nursing students, that journey officially began at the Lamp of Knowledge Ceremony, where Scrubs & Scopes recipients received a stethoscope. They’ll also receive a pair of scrubs as they prepare for their first semester of nursing.

The UND Alumni Association & Foundation's Scrubs & Scopes Fund helps provide nursing students with two essentials they need to begin their nursing education: scrubs and a stethoscope.

You can help make that first day possible for the next generation of nurses:

🩺 $210 provides scrubs + a stethoscope
🩺 $120 provides a stethoscope
🩺 $90 provides scrubs

Graduate school is demanding — and taking care of yourself matters, too. 💚

Thank you to Dr. Michael Soward from the UND University Counseling Center for spending time with our first-year Nurse Anesthesia students to talk about wellness, stress management and finding balance throughout graduate school.

The conversation was insightful, practical and a valuable reminder that success isn’t just about what happens in the classroom. Our program is committed to helping students build resilience, prioritize self-care and develop healthy habits that support their well-being and professional growth.

Because taking care of our students is part of preparing them to take care of others. 💚

One week down, a whole nursing journey ahead. 💚🩺

Last Monday, our newest nursing students gathered for the Lamp of Knowledge Ceremony, marking the beginning of their first semester as UND nursing students.

Students received their Lamp of Knowledge pins and joined together to recite the Nurses’ Oath, a meaningful reminder of the responsibility, compassion and commitment that come with entering the nursing profession.

Now one week into the semester, the journey is officially underway. We’re so proud to welcome this new group of future nurses to UND and can’t wait to see all they accomplish along the way!

Summer Gero-STARR Intensive in action! 🩺💚

Gero-STARR students put Age-Friendly Care into practice through hands-on clinical simulations as part of their intensive training. From building clinical confidence to applying the 4Ms of the Age-Friendly Care Framework, these experiences help prepare future nurses to provide high-quality care for older adults in rural communities.

𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐨-𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐑? 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐍𝐎𝐖!

Gero-STARR is designed for 𝐔𝐍𝐃 𝐁𝐒𝐍 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 this fall. Eligible students must have graduated from a North Dakota high school, be full-time with a minimum 3.0 GPA, and meet other program requirements.

Selected scholars receive scholarships, a monthly stipend, mentoring, and specialized Age-Friendly Care training — with a commitment to work as a nurse in North Dakota for at least one year after graduation.

Turns out, professional development can be delicious. 🧁

Midway through staff development, CNPD staff took a break to learn the art of cupcake frosting from UND Dining. Our instructor was pretty speedy, but we caught on quickly! Monsters, flowers and plenty of other sweet creations followed. 💚
