Yesterday was Denim Day, and the Green Dot GGF CORE Team was proud to show our support! Sexual assault has no place in the Grand Forks community, and showing our support though proactive green dots is a great way to spread that message.

According to our most recently available data, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men will experience sexual assault in their lifetime*.

This April, we want to reflect on the statistics surrounding sexual assault and consider how our community can intervene to prevent it using the Green Dot strategy. See our previous post for intervention strategies that you can use to intervene in sexual assault situations.

*These numbers may not accurately portray the true amount of those affected by sexual assault, as many cases go unreported.

This April, use the 3Ds to help prevent sexual assault in our community.

If you feel like someone is in an unsafe situation, you can be DIRECT and check in to make sure they are okay.

If you are concerned about a situation and don't feel comfortable getting involved, you can DELEGATE by asking a bartender or manager to intervene.

If it looks like someone is in a dangerous situation, you can DISTRACT by pretending to know them and leading them away from harm.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) and we want to bring awareness to those affected by this issue and how our community can intervene to prevent it using the Green Dot strategy. Follow along with our social media this month as we share ways that you can help prevent sexual assault and build a culture that doesn't tolerate harmful behavior.

Start the month off right with a Proactive Green Dot by wearing TEAL next Tuesday, April 7th to show support for survivors of sexual assault.
