Busy summer at Newman!

Many tend to think things slow down at the Newman Center during the summer, but in actuality, it’s a time for us to catch up and do all the things we didn’t do throughout the busy school year. This summer we cranked out a number of projects, from new shelving in our storage areas (some of the old wood ones were sagging, rotting, and molding) and reorganizing the storage areas, to ordering some new social hall items, to replacing the upstairs water fountains, to steam system repairs, to chimney repairs (tuckpointed the top 4 feet of both chimneys, one of them was ready to drop a brick onto the rectory driveway below), to cleaning all the radiators, to cleaning all of the carpets at Newman (this hadn’t been done in at least 4 years), cleaning air intakes, replacing or cleaning furnace and heater filters…along with other projects in the works. It was a busy summer, indeed!

Big thank you to Minh Le, who helped make all that happen! Pray for him, he is already out at the seminary at Mount Saint Mary’s for our diocese starting the propaedeutic year (year of prayer and discernment).

Thank you! We had a phenomenal fiscal year this last year thanks to all of our generous donors who believe and partner with our mission here at undCatholic! We were even able to put some money away into savings, which is good, because we found out this summer that we have some big projects to work on at Newman, from roofs, to HVAC, to brick work, to structural things, etc. The rectory (the priest’s residence) is 75 years old this year, and the newer parts of the Newman Center are almost 30 years old already…time flies! Thank you again for all your generosity to us, and for your prayers, know that we are keeping all of you in our prayers as well.
