This summer, the Grand Forks City Band premiered a brand-new march by none other than our own ๐——๐—ฟ. ๐—–๐—ต๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฝ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—š๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—น๐—ฒ!

"๐˜‰๐˜ญ๐˜ถ๐˜ฆ ๐˜—๐˜ฐ๐˜ญ๐˜ฐ ๐˜”๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ค๐˜ฉ is a fairly traditional march, but with some fun surprises. Janelle Huber (conductor of the Grand Forks City Band) loves marches and often includes two or three in each of the band's summer concert series. So I wrote the ๐˜‰๐˜ญ๐˜ถ๐˜ฆ ๐˜—๐˜ฐ๐˜ญ๐˜ฐ ๐˜”๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ค๐˜ฉ as a gift to the band, with whom I have been playing trombone for three years now. The title is in honor of the distinctive blue polo shirts that we wear while performing. The piece is really just about the joy of making music with friends!"

Dr. Lisa Bost-Sandberg is home from the 54th Annual Convention of the National Flute Association, the largest gathering of flute players from around the world.

She was a featured soloist on the Friday night Gala Concert, performing Shulamit Ran's ๐˜Œ๐˜ข๐˜ด๐˜ต ๐˜ž๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ for solo flute. At the convention, she also performed the solo part of Henry Brant's ๐˜ˆ๐˜ฏ๐˜จ๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ด & ๐˜‹๐˜ฆ๐˜ท๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜ด, a major work and historically important piece for soloist + flute ensemble.

Bost-Sandberg was also one of three commissioned composers. Her composition, ๐˜๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ๐˜ธ๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ญ for solo piccolo, was a required piece for the six semi-finalists of the Piccolo Artist Competition, all of whom were impressive players from Europe. ๐˜๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ๐˜ธ๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ญ then received its official world premiere, performed by Mary Kay Fink, long-standing piccoloist of the Cleveland Orchestra, professor of the Cleveland Institute of Music, and an expert performer of new music.

We are pleased to announce that Jeremiah Ingram is joining our faculty as Assistant Director of Athletic Bands/Teaching Assistant Professor of Music!

Mr. Ingram is a percussionist-educator recently based in Kentucky, where he served as the adjunct percussion professor at Kentucky State University. He is an ABD doctoral candidate at the University of Kentucky where his duties include drumline teaching and arranging, studio instruction, and percussion ensemble directing. He holds a Master of Music in percussion performance from the University of Missouri where he was the Assistant Director of the Marching Mizzou Drumline. Ingram's undergraduate degrees in percussion performance and music education are from Auburn University.
