National Indigenous Justice Information Inclusion The members of NIJII believe that information and inclusion are fundamental pillars of a just and equitable society.

The member of NIJII are primarily the same team which provided resources and support for many years through the National Indigenous Elder Justice Initiative (NIEJI), that many Tribes are familiar with. Access to accurate and pertinent Indigenous information empowers individuals with knowledge, enabling them to make informed decisions, participate in civic life, and pursue personal and community wellness. Inclusion, on the other hand, ensures that all members of society, regardless of their background or identity, have an equal opportunity to access this information.

The day rallies communities to create safe, supportive, and respectful environments where everyone feels a sense of belonging and is free from fear.

Cultural Significance: Bullying is particularly detrimental to Native American communities due to its connection to historical trauma, lateral violence, and cultural genocide. Native youth are vulnerable to "cultural bullying" where they are ridiculed for not knowing their culture or language, contributing to low self-esteem and potential mental health issues like depression and su***de. Addressing bullying within and from outside these communities, requires culturally based interventions that emphasize resilience, traditional teachings, community support, and positive cultural affirmation to heal from historical injustices and prevent further harm.

It also supports the resilience and hard work of entrepreneurs, uplifts communities by showcasing local "heart," and encourages public support through actions like shopping locally and sharing businesses online.

Cultural Significance: In 2021, U.S. Census Bureau data indicates there were over 406,000 Hispanic-owned businesses, 161,000 African American-owned businesses, 642,000 Asian-owned businesses, and 48,000 American Indian/Alaska Native-owned businesses. These figures cover employer businesses, but also include millions of nonemployer firms, which are businesses without employees. Caucasian owners accounted for a significant majority of employer businesses, while making up a smaller share of nonemployer businesses compared to their population share.

Cultural Significance : There isn't a single total count of Native Americans diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S., but rates indicate they are 7% more likely to be diagnosed with it and 10% more likely to die from it than non-Hispanic Caucasian women. In 2017-2021, the incidence rate was about 113.0 per 100,000 Native American/Alaska Native females, a rate that is rising, particularly among women in their 40s. Alzheimer’s is one type of brain disease that ultimately leads to dementia. A person can have Alzheimer’s disease for several years before dementia develops. Like other diseases such as cancer, medical changes begin to occur long before symptoms become obvious to the doctor or to family and friends. Someone in the early stages may have a mild memory problem that goes unnoticed by most people. With time, as the disease progresses, this person may develop ‘Alzheimer’s dementia.’

Dementia is a medical condition that involves a loss of short-term memory and other thinking abilities such as language and attention, impaired ability to carry out everyday tasks (like driving, finances, self-care), and a gradual shrinking of the brain caused by extensive loss of brain cells. Dementia can be caused by different types of brain diseases.
