Our students joined fellow health professions students at the Teddy Bear Clinic, where kindergarteners explored healthcare through hands-on activities with their new stuffed animal patients .๐Ÿงธ๐Ÿงธ

Events like this give our students an opportunity to connect with young members of the community and help make healthcare a little less intimidating!

Introducing the newly elected officers for the Class of 2029!

Class officers are elected by their peers during the fall of their first year and serve in their roles through graduation.

Officers serve as liaisons between their classmates and faculty, plan events, represent their class in meetings with APTA North Dakota, and collaborate with student leaders from other health care professions at the University of North Dakota.

We're proud to have Cindy as the Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy, setting the standard for faculty and student alike through participation and leadership in both local and national PT organizations.

We want to take this time to thank our outgoing APTA-ND president Cindy Flom-Meland! Cindy served as our chapter president for 3 terms (9 years) and is the program chair of the UND Physical Therapy Program. We asked her two questions.....

What have you enjoyed the most as APTA-ND president?
I have enjoyed working with board/committee members and members from across the state to work to raise physical therapy practice to the top of our license.

What are you most proud of during your term?
The ability to collaborate with the NDBPT, our lobbyist, and other healthcare providers on various initiatives (ordering imaging, primary care provider for WSI, & mobility placards). I love the work we have done to keep membership numbers up, which has allowed us to have 3 delegates from our state at the APTA House of Delegates.

Enjoy some photos from over the years. We are grateful for Cindy's leadership and service!

What does professional advocacy look like for a future physical therapist?

Our student APTA representative recently introduced fellow DPT students to one example through APTAโ€™s Flash Action Strategy, an annual student-led advocacy initiative.

You might see PT students zoning out on their phones. We see future physical therapists advocating for their profession.

Stay tuned to learn more about how our students are working to protect and advance the future of physical therapy on a legislative level.
