This summer, the UND RIAS team, in collaboration with UND Aerospace, the Northern Plains UAS Test Site, New Mexico State University, University of Alaska Fairbanks, The University of Alabama in Huntsville, and Mississippi State University, participated in the final demonstration of the ASSURE A60 project (Evaluation of UAS Integration Safety and Security Technologies in the NAS). The goal was to validate test methodologies and provide technical approaches for assessing UAS safety and security technologies within the National Airspace System. This included evaluating the potential for interference with airborne avionics, communications, navigation and surveillance systems, air traffic management systems, and other ground-based infrastructure. Over the past couple years, teams conducted tests in diverse environments such as Fairbanks, Alaska; Cape May, New Jersey; Santa Teresa, New Mexico; Camp Grafton South, North Dakota; and Starkville, Mississippi, to determine how environmental factors influence technology performance. This final event focused on wildfire conditions, providing the FAA with critical data on how these environments impact system capabilities.
