This morning, our Sacred Heart community gathered for a beautiful and historic celebration: the Mass of the Holy Spirit and the Installation of Angela LaGrange Scott, ’89, as Head of School.
The Mass of the Holy Spirit is a treasured tradition celebrated by Sacred Heart schools throughout the Network as we begin a new school year seeking, in the words of St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, to live “in complete openness to the Holy Spirit.”
We were honored to welcome Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel, Monsignor Keith DeRouen, Father J. Patrick Hough, SJ, of the Jesuit Spirituality Center, and Father Mark Melancon of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church to concelebrate this morning’s Mass. And, we were blessed to have Anna Larriviere, Superintendent for the Diocese of Lafayette, to offer special remarks and the Call to Worship.
During the liturgy, we witnessed the deeply meaningful Rite of Commissioning, formally installing Angela LaGrange Scott, ’89, as Head of School. Nat Wilburn, Head of Conference; Sr. Lynne Lieux, RSCJ, of the Provincial Team; Sr. Mary Charlotte Chandler, RSCJ; Sr. Sharon Karam, RSCJ; and Kristie Callais, Chair of the Board of Trustees, participated in this sacred ritual, surrounding Angela with the prayers and support of the Society of the Sacred Heart, the Network of Sacred Heart Schools, and our school community.
It was especially meaningful to share this moment with guests from across the country; family and friends; colleagues from The Regis School of the Sacred Heart; parents and grandparents; alumnae and alumni; and our faculty, staff, and students. And, in true Sacred Heart fashion, we concluded our celebration with one of our favorite traditions—goûter on the gallery.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, near and far, and especially for the prayers that have surrounded our school and Ms. Scott as she begins this new chapter of leadership.
Today honored the traditions and mission that have guided Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau for more than two centuries, while also marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter. With gratitude for all that has brought us to this moment, we move forward together with faith, courage and confidence—open to the Holy Spirit and filled with hope for all that lies ahead.
