This year, Berchmans Academy of the Sacred Heart proudly celebrates 20 years of faith, brotherhood, tradition, and Sacred Heart education!

We kicked off this milestone anniversary year in the best way we know how—together. Our entire Berchmans community gathered for Mass in the gym, where the boys raised their voices to sing a favorite anthem, Brother—a fitting tribute to the brotherhood that has been at the heart of Berchmans since its beginning.

Following Mass, each student received a special 20th Anniversary lapel pin and prayer card to commemorate this momentous year and his own place in the Berchmans story. And no Sacred Heart celebration would be complete without one of our favorite traditions: goûter!

For 20 years, generations of Berchmans boys have learned, prayed, served, competed, celebrated, and grown together. We are grateful for all who built this school, proud of the young men who carry its mission today, and excited for all that lies ahead.

Happy 20th Birthday, Berchmans! Here’s to 20 years of brotherhood—and many more to come.

When Louisiana gives you a heat advisory…you make your own cool-down station!

Some quick thinking and a little Berchmans ingenuity from Mr. John Henry Trant turned a misting hose into the biggest hit on the playground this week.

Just another day of adventure at Berchmans!

Our PreK playground received some much-appreciated TLC today thanks to a hardworking group of Berchmans alumni and Kappa Sigma brothers from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette!

Coordinated through the efforts of Travis Callais, Kappa Sigma alum and parent of both ASH and Berchmans students, and Roman Prince, ’25, president of the Kappa Sigma chapter at UL Lafayette, these young men answered the call to serve—rolling up their sleeves to help refurbish and refresh a special space for some of our youngest students.

We are grateful to the Callais family; Roman Prince, ’25; Devyn Barlow, ’25; Vincent Thibodeaux, ’25; and their Kappa Sigma fraternity brothers for giving their time and energy back to Sacred Heart.

It is especially meaningful to see our Berchmans gentlemen return to campus and continue living the values formed here. Service, leadership and brotherhood don’t end at graduation—they simply find new places to grow.

20 Years of Berchmans Academy of the Sacred Heart

Twenty years ago, a bold vision became a reality.

On August 13, 2006, St. John Berchmans School opened its doors to just 26 boys in PreK through second grade and nine faculty and staff members. For more than 185 years, Sacred Heart education had formed generations of young women in Grand Coteau. That year, the legacy expanded as boys, too, were welcomed into an education rooted in the mission, values, and charism of the Society of the Sacred Heart.

From the very beginning, our boys brought an unmistakable spirit of their own—energy and enthusiasm, curiosity and intelligence, adventure and competition, humor, questions, faith, and, yes, plenty of noise. Over the past two decades, Berchmans has grown alongside them, creating a Sacred Heart experience intentionally designed to form boys into young men of faith and intellect, courage and compassion, integrity and service.

Today, those first little boys are grown men, and generations of Berchmans graduates have followed them. They are physicians and engineers, EMTs and IT specialists, seminarians and entrepreneurs, husbands and fathers, leaders and servants in their communities. Their paths are different, but they share a formation that calls them to use their gifts generously in service to others.

And what a moment to celebrate 20 years.

Throughout this anniversary year, we will celebrate the people, traditions, stories, and moments that have shaped these first two decades—and the boys and young men who give Berchmans its unmistakable spirit.

Twenty years of faith. Twenty years of brotherhood. Twenty years of becoming men for others.

Happy 20th Anniversary, Berchmans Academy of the Sacred Heart. Here’s to all that has been—and all that is still to come.

This morning, our Sacred Heart community gathered for a beautiful and historic celebration: the Mass of the Holy Spirit and the Installation of Angela LaGrange Scott, ’89, as Head of School.

The Mass of the Holy Spirit is a treasured tradition celebrated by Sacred Heart schools throughout the Network as we begin a new school year seeking, in the words of St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, to live “in complete openness to the Holy Spirit.”

We were honored to welcome Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel, Monsignor Keith DeRouen, Father J. Patrick Hough, SJ, of the Jesuit Spirituality Center, and Father Mark Melancon of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church to concelebrate this morning’s Mass. And, we were blessed to have Anna Larriviere, Superintendent for the Diocese of Lafayette, to offer special remarks and the Call to Worship.

During the liturgy, we witnessed the deeply meaningful Rite of Commissioning, formally installing Angela LaGrange Scott, ’89, as Head of School. Nat Wilburn, Head of Conference; Sr. Lynne Lieux, RSCJ, of the Provincial Team; Sr. Mary Charlotte Chandler, RSCJ; Sr. Sharon Karam, RSCJ; and Kristie Callais, Chair of the Board of Trustees, participated in this sacred ritual, surrounding Angela with the prayers and support of the Society of the Sacred Heart, the Network of Sacred Heart Schools, and our school community.

It was especially meaningful to share this moment with guests from across the country; family and friends; colleagues from The Regis School of the Sacred Heart; parents and grandparents; alumnae and alumni; and our faculty, staff, and students. And, in true Sacred Heart fashion, we concluded our celebration with one of our favorite traditions—goûter on the gallery.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, near and far, and especially for the prayers that have surrounded our school and Ms. Scott as she begins this new chapter of leadership.

Today honored the traditions and mission that have guided Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau for more than two centuries, while also marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter. With gratitude for all that has brought us to this moment, we move forward together with faith, courage and confidence—open to the Holy Spirit and filled with hope for all that lies ahead.

The boys are back! Today, our campus was once again filled with the unmistakable energy of a new school year—and our Berchmans brothers made sure it started in a big way.

Bright and early, our seniors took their places at the entrance to carry on one of our favorite first-day traditions, welcoming every student to campus with signs, cheers, and plenty of school spirit. They have waited years to be the ones leading the welcome, and this morning certainly lived up to the anticipation.

It was the perfect beginning to a great first day—our youngest boys arriving for a brand-new adventure, our returning students reconnecting with friends and teachers, and our seniors stepping into their final year as leaders of the Berchmans brotherhood.

What a way to begin. Welcome back, boys!
