This coop is for sale!

Designed by me, built and installed with the help of in 2020, this coop/run combo has a total footprint of 8'x16' and can very comfortably house up to 16 full sized chickens year round. When properly installed with a hardware cloth "skirt", this setup is pest- and predator-proof, plus my designs are modular so they can be easily disassembled and reassembled, fit through narrow access points, and are very easy to add on to if you want to expand the size. It also has a few sweet upgrades, including black PVC-coated hardware cloth and the YBC trim package, giving it that extra-polished look, and a bunch of other design elements that are standard on YBC-designed coops as a result of my years of consulting for hundreds of flocks and seeing what works!

I'm asking $6000 including delivery and installation, though please let me know if you're seriously interested and want to make a different offer - I'd be more than happy to see what we can work out! Similarly I'd be thrilled for it to go to a school or other community facility, and in that case I'm happy to donate the coop itself, and can work with that group/facility to cover the costs of transport and installation (e.g. if they have a handful of willing relatively skilled and strong volunteers that will go a long way towards reducing the labor costs!).

Send me a DM and let's get a-plannin'! πŸ˜„

These girls definitely missed the "leave the leaves until 50 degrees" memo. πŸ€ͺ
*Bugs were definitely harmed in the making of this video, but hopefully no pollinators!

Hello everyone! It's been a minute! YBC is waking up a bit this spring, so stay tuned for class announcements, fun and informative posts, and other general chicken-related shenanigans. πŸ˜„

First up: Charlie the Brassy-back Old English Game Bantam ("OEGB"). She is a KICK, and the last of a crew of OEGB hens I got from a local breeder in 2020. Can't wait to add a few more bantam breeds to our flock later this year!

Doing some prep for a big coop/run soil replacement project in Cambridge this week...

I'm partnering with the awesome folks at and Zell Builders to replace 12" of soil under the coop+run for a client whose birds tested positive for lead. The plan is to move the coop/run (3rd pic) off to the side, remove 8" deep of the existing soil, line the rectangular hole with landscape cloth and hardware cloth, lay down this 4" tall "raised bed" around the perimeter, fill the now 12" deep hole with clean soil, and put the coop/run back on top! Stay tuned for process pics later this week. πŸ˜„

(And shout out to for building super-sturdy coops and runs that make a project like this possible!)

SUPER full weekend of flock and "replacement bird" deliveries, integration pen setups and process trainings, annual flock health checks, winterizing, and a few new client initial site assessments! I'm still booking at least one more Boston-area trip this fall so if you'd like to get on the schedule for a visit let me know and we'll make it happen. (Can also do elsewhere in Southern New England for in-person assessments or anywhere with internet for remote assistance!) Especially for you new-this-year crazy chicken folks, check out my upcoming Winterizing class on Zoom - same class either Weds evening Oct 7th or Sat afternoon Oct 10th. Registration link in the comments.
Oh, and a bonus pic of my poor Dizzy, who absolutely wins this year's award for "worst molt". Poor little girl is NEKKED lol.
