For Throwback Thursday. A great woman erased from history.
The branding of the syrup was a tribute to this woman’s gifts and talents. Now, future generations will not even know this beautiful woman existed. What a shame. The world knew her as “Aunt Jemima”, but her given name was Nancy Green, and she was a true American success story. She was born a slave in 1834 Montgomery County, KY and became a wealthy superstar in the advertising world as its first living trademark. Green was 56-yrs old when she was selected as a spokesperson for a new ready-mixed, self-rising pancake flour and made her debut in 1893 at a fair and exposition in Chicago She demonstrated the pancake mix and served thousands of pancakes, and became an immediate star. She was a good storyteller, her personality was warm and appealing, and her showmanship was exceptional. Her exhibition booth drew so many people that special security personnel were assigned to keep the crowds moving. Nancy Green was signed to a lifetime contract, traveled on promotional tours all over the country, and was extremely well paid. Her financial freedom and stature as a national spokesperson enabled her to become a leading advocate against poverty and in favor of equal rights for all Americans. She maintained her job until her death in 1923, at age 89. This was a remarkable woman, and sadly, she has been ERASED by politics.

I apologize for the lateness of this post. The Reunion on Saturday, October 5th at 7pm will be at Brantly's. We are keeping it casual and low key with potluck and BYOB, $5 per person at the door. I think it will be a great time so come on out and get this party started!

Ok guys, due to unforseen circumstances we have decisions to make. The facility vendor, Bently's, is not charging us a venue fee for the reunion but still needed a rough head count to order food and advanced payment for said food to cover cost. I was not aware until recently that this had not been taken care of. So, we can either get an idea of how many are coming and have someone take money through paypal to front the food cost (roughly $20 per person for BBQ or $8 per person for food truck) and be paid back that night by attendees at the door, OR everyone pays $5 and a dish for potluck at the door that night. DJ is NOT included in this so we would either need to book one (which would require a deposit I'm sure) or we get to listen to iphone playlists. PLEASE post with constructive ideas as to which would be most preferred or if you for sure can help with planning/cost. I have to let the venue know what we are doing Friday the 27th so they are able to prepare. I will post the final plans by the first of next week after meeting with the vendor. I apologize for the last minute chaos and thank you for your feedback.

Hey guys thanks for responding to invites to this page so quickly! Please tag people or send to people that you know in our class as I'm not Facebook friends with everyone. Hopefully this will reach most people by the time we get all the details worked out. I know there are some people who aren't on here or even any social media so I'm not sure how we go about letting them know about the reunion other than word of mouth. If anyone has ideas about that please post them. Thanks guys!
