Eagle Ford Shale Update: The Eagle Ford Shale in South Texas has been setting records, with the rig count reaching an all-time high of 267 active rigs in December. Eagle Ford now covers 24 counties in Railroad Districts 1-6, leaving room for expansion. New international companies have continued to invest in Eagle Ford. Marubeni has agreed to 35% in Hunt Oil Company’s 52,000 acres. Joining the trend is Reliance Industries out of Mumbai, India making bids for El Paso’s assets. The idea to capitalize on the natural gas in the Eagle Ford Shale play is slowly becoming a reality. Even with the slowdown in the Barnett, Texas still has much to offer!
Ark-La-Tex Update: In following the statistics for the Haynesville Shale, natural gas remains at the $4 mark. The price of oil remains steady at above $80 per barrel, with an increase in oil drilling activity expected. Though there are reports of rig counts in Louisiana falling about 15% in the past year (according to Baker Hughes), the reviews are mixed with regard to any developments in the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale play. Various seminars and publications suggest the problem with legacy lawsuits causing a negative impact on the business climate for oil and gas companies in Louisiana. Because of the slowdown in the Haynesville Shale, it is also expected that landmen who worked in this area to move their business to other shale plays. However, as long as there are questions and discrepancies about mineral ownership, WE will always be here to serve you!
According to the latest Texas Petro Index, crude oil production in Texas topped an estimated 40.2 million barrels in January, marking the highest monthly statewide total since 1998. 14% of U.S. oil output comes from the Texas Permian basin.

Keystone Kontroversy:
The controversial argument over Canada’s Keystone XL pipeline continues, as a decision deadline is set for the end of February. Given the lack of time, the project is likely to be rejected in Washington.
Keystone XL is a proposed pipeline extending from Canada to Texas. While environmentalists express a concern for possible leakage into the Ogallala Aquifer, the Midwest’s major water source, supporters are looking at the relief of dependence on foreign oil and the thousands of jobs it would create for such a large area of the country.
In either case, Canada will build this energy pipeline. With increases in protesting, Canada has set its sights on export to China. This means China would be getting these jobs as opposed to Americans.
A Canadian independent federal panel will review a new proposal on Tuesday. This includes a western pipeline between Alberta to British Columbia. And from British Columbia, Canada can ship tankers to China. This new plan cuts the U.S. out of the picture completely, as Canada has grown impatient with delays involving the project.
