Join us this Wednesday in the wee hours before dawn as we watch the Lyrids meteor shower from Saxapahaw Lake on the Haw River! With a wide open sky on a moonless night, hopefully we'll see some of the bright, trailing fireballs the Lyrids are known for as we relax in our canoes and kayaks. With experienced guides and calm waters, this trip is suitable for paddlers of any skill level. 🌠

These two love-birds were spotted during a walk organized by Friends of Lower Haw with Sean from North Carolina State Parks in Bynum this morning - it’s almost like they knew it’s Valentine’s Day and they wanted to pose for the group! 💞

Unlike the lyrics to this classic Natalie Cole song, these migrating Cedar Waxwings don’t actually mate for life, but instead pair up for a season with mates bonding by passing a small object back and forth (in this case, a berry) until one or the other eats it🫐🐦

Want to get in on the bird watching action? 👀 Both the and the continue through Monday! You can learn more at Science Across North Carolina🪶
