Today is Thankful Thursday as part of National 4-H week. A day to recognize 4-Hers who are doing good and making positive impact by helping their communities. The 4-H Pledge states "I pledge my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service, and my health to better living, for my club, my community, my country, and my world." Taylor County 4-H members have demonstrated the "Hands to Larger Service" portion of the pledge.

We wanted to highlight some of the good work of the Taylor County 4-H program. Here are a few photos from service projects in the last year or so, including collections for food drives, Cassie's Toy Box, Cookie trays for first responders in December, Volunteering at the Humane Society, collecting trash at Tygart Lake and more.

To learn more about the Taylor County 4-H program and how your kids can become members send a message to our page or call the office at 304-265-3303.

πŸ€πŸŽ‰ Welcome to the New 4-H Year in Taylor County! πŸŽ‰πŸ€

Today marks the beginning of a new 4-H year, and enrollment for 2026-2027 opens at 2:00 PM at πŸ‘‰ www.4h.zsuite.org

One of the most rewarding experiences in 4-H is participating in a local community club. Taylor County is fortunate to have three active community 4-H clubs where youth can learn new skills, serve their communities, make friends, and have fun!

⭐ Tonight is the West Taylor Black Bears 4-H Club meeting! ⭐

If you are interested in learning more about 4-H and becoming involved with the West Taylor Black Bears, we encourage you to stop by tonight's meeting. This is a great opportunity to meet club members and leaders, learn about the club's activities, and find out how to enroll in 4-H.

Throughout the month, we will share more detailed information about each of our community clubs. Since the West Taylor Black Bears are meeting this evening, we wanted to take this opportunity to invite interested families to visit. If you can't make it tonight don't worry, reach out to the Extension Office and we will get you connected with the club.

❓ Have questions about 4-H in Taylor County or how to get involved?

πŸ“ž Contact the WVU Taylor County Extension Office at 304-265-3303. We'd be happy to help you find the 4-H opportunity that's right for your family!

This afternoon, 3 Taylor County 4-H members were inducted into the WV 4-H All Stars, the 4-H honorary organization. These members do not apply for membership or request membership in the organization. They do not receive membership in the WV 4-H All Stars because they attended lots of 4-H club meetings and went to 4-H camp. They must earn their membership through service to the 4-H program and be nominated by an existing 4-H All Star. That nomination which must document their service to the program must than be approved by the selection committee. Congratulations to Emily Himes, Meghan Henline, and Kaige Andrews on their selection and induction into the WV 4-H All Stars. You each have spent many nights at 4-H camp leading the 1st year overnighter and Cloverbud Evening Camps. You have served as officers within your community 4-H Clubs, the teen leaders club and provided leadership to these clubs and more. You have earned your membership in the organization through your hard work with these events and many more.

The results are in, and the Taylor County 4H horse judging teams had an amazing showing at the contest today! First we had the Junior Hippology portion of the contest, which saw Zadaya Bolyard placing 6th overall, Audra Murray placing 3rd, and Eden Lambert placed 2nd. Together they were the top scoring team for Junior Hippology. And then for the Horse Judging part of the contest, Zadaya Bolyard was 6th, Audra Murray was 2nd, and Eden Lambert was the 1st place individual. And together they were named the 1st place team for horse judging.
Our senior team consisted of Cheyenne Bolyard, Kaige Andrews, PJ McGinnis, and Colton Gillespie, and they only competed in the Hippology portion of the contest, as most of them were part of the team that won horse judging last year. Together they were the first place team, and will now be studying and practicing to prepare for the Hippology contest at the 2026 Eastern National 4-H Horse Expo this coming November.
Congratulations to this great group of members, we appreciate the time and effort you all have invested in this contest and way to go for representing Taylor County so well!

These 7 members have been studying and preparing for several weeks for this contest, which consists of an Hippology portion, which was mostly completed yesterday on the WVU Evandsale campus, and then the judging and oral reasons portions which are happening today.

This morning a group of Taylor County 4-H members got up early to head to Tygart Lake State Park and spend several hours picking up trash in one of the coves. In all, 50 bags of trash, 15 tires, one truck bed liner and a propane tank was collected! We appreciate the efforts of these youth and their dedication to community service ❀️ πŸ€
