The night of Thursday, August 27, into the early hours of Friday, August 28 at 12:18 a.m. EDT, the moon will be full. This full moon coincides with a deep partial lunar eclipse, where a large percentage of the moon enters Earth's shadow, giving it a coppery or reddish glow. It will be the full moon known as the Sturgeon Moon as this was the time of year when native Americans caught these giant fish in the shallows of the great lakes.

The Perseid meteor shower peaks overnight on August 12–13, 2026. Under clear, dark skies, viewers can expect to see roughly 50 to 100 swift, bright meteors and colorful fireballs per hour, resulting from Earth passing through debris left by the Comet Swift-Tuttle. The best time to view meteor showers is after midnight, since that is the side of the earth that is moving into the meteors. Sadly, our weather report is not promising, but maybe it will be wrong.
