Happy summer!
Fall lessons start August 18-20!

Here are some pictures from Week 2, Piano Careers Group Class: It was so fun to try this theme for the first time with these four awesome students, all rising 5th-6th graders! We learned about four different career possibilities: piano teaching, piano performance, collaborative piano, and music directing.

Each day, we spent time with some brief video content, exploring some “perks,” of that career, some challenges, skills needed to be successful, and strategies to help build those skills. Students practiced teaching each other a simple song by rote, performed a piano solo, played collaboratively with each other, and used their budding music direction skills to plan and perform an end of week performance for their families.

*A huge thank you to our teaching assistant for this week, who coached students whenever we split into pairs, and shared some of her experiences with all of us: from teaching a beginner piano student, to preparing and performing a senior recital, to playing for a choir for the first time.*

June group classes were so much fun this year! Here are some pictures from Week 1, Ensemble Group Class: These students experimented with rhythm patterns and percussion instruments each day, listened to and learned about different kinds of music ensembles (choir, orchestra, jazz band, piano quintet, gamelan, steel drum band, etc), and learned two piano ensemble pieces to perform for their families by the end of the week!

Congratulations to these six students, who participated in the Goshen College Piano & Strings Camp this past week! I’m so grateful to all the camp faculty and the piano guest artist (Dr. Elena Cholakova from Emory University) for providing wonderful growth opportunities for these young pianists! Thanks to everyone at the Goshen College Music Center for making it happen.
