Research continues to highlight the impact personal devices can have on student focus, engagement, and well-being. Schools across the country that have implemented phone-free practices have also reported positive results, including increased student engagement, improved academic performance, and fewer behavioral referrals.

As Goshen Community Schools prepares to implement Yondr pouches for students in grades 7-12 this fall, we remain focused on creating learning environments where students can engage with their teachers, connect with their peers, and focus on learning.

We've made important updates to our student device policy for the 2026-27 school year.

Grades 7-12 (Yondr Program)
• Goshen Community Schools will now provide a Yondr pouch at no cost to every student in grades 7-12.
• Students will receive their pouch on the first day of school and return it to the school on the last day of the school year.
• Replacement pouches will cost $35 if one is lost or damaged beyond normal wear.

Grades K-6
While students in grades K-6 will not use Yondr pouches, Indiana Senate Bill 78 still requires wireless communication devices to be inaccessible during the school day. As outlined in the student handbook, students in grades K-4, upon arrival, will:
1. Turn their phone/WCD off or switch it to airplane mode.
2. Turn their phone/WCD into the office to be stored during the day.
3. Pick up their device at the end of the day.

Students in 5th and 6th Grade will:
1. Turn their phone/WCD off or switch it to airplane mode.
2. Phone/WCD will be placed in the student’s locker and will remain there during the school day.
3. Retrieve their device from the locker at the end of the day.

Our goal is the same for every school: creating focused learning environments where students can fully engage with their teachers and classmates.

Now that you know GCS will be using Yondr pouches beginning next school year, we're here to tell you the reason why. So, why are student device expectations changing for the 2026-27 school year?

Earlier this year, Indiana lawmakers passed Senate Bill 78, requiring schools to limit student access to personal wireless communication devices during the school day.

As Goshen Community Schools implements this new requirement for students in grades 7-12, our goal is to create classrooms where students can focus on learning, engage with their teachers and peers, and minimize distractions during instructional time.

The Goshen Junior High School After School Theatre Arts (ASTA) program has officially announced its 2026-27 season!

This year's productions:
• Mean Girls Jr. — Fall Musical
• Down in Front — Winter Play

ASTA is open to all GCS students in grades 6-8 and provides opportunities for students to perform, build confidence, develop friendships, and be part of something special both on and off the stage.

Whether your student loves acting, singing, technical theater, stage crew, or simply wants to try something new, there's a place for everyone in ASTA.

Performances are directed by Mr. David Lounsbury, with rehearsals typically held after school at Goshen Junior High School.

A weekend to remember for Goshen Junior High Choir!

Last weekend, 58 GJHS choir students traveled to Cedar Point to compete in the Music in the Parks festival — and came home with some incredible accomplishments.

The group earned a Superior rating, the highest rating possible, for their performance of three songs and also took home 1st place overall among all junior high choirs at the festival.

We are so proud of the hard work, talent, and dedication these students and directors continue to show. Go Goshen!
