Fantastic tips from the GIS PTO as the bid the incoming middle schoolers a fond farewell!

Before our 6th grade families fly the nest and unfollow us, here are some maybe helpful tips we have gathered, would love to hear any others you or your students have!

✅Download ParentSquare (school's main communication app)
✅Check Google Classroom daily for assignments and updates until your kid gets the full hang of things
✅Put your kid's school email on your phone (again, till they get the hang of it!)
✅Check School Tool under Assignments a few times a week for grades — good not to be surprised!
✅Save teacher email addresses/contact info in one place for all your kid's classes
✅Note locker combination somewhere safe (backup copy at home); the school can provide an assisted lock if your kid needs one
✅Confirm bus route/number and pickup/drop-off times
✅Label supplies, water bottle, and any clothes with your student's name — the lost and found at Ho**er is HUGE
✅Review the school's daily schedule/bell schedule so you know when classes change — print this out near your kid's door to remind them to wear sneakers on gym days!
✅Sync the school calendar (half days, breaks, early dismissals) to your phone calendar now
✅Look through the club and sport offerings and talk with your kid about what they want to join — there are a lot of clubs at CJ Ho**er!

CONGRATULATIONS to Officer Brandon Raab for his retirement today! We've been honored to have him as our School Resource Officer at Goshen High School. His professionalism, compassion, and protection will be sorely missed. THANK YOU OFFICER RAAB!

The following was read during his retirement walkout:

Goshen base on the air to recognize the retirement of Patrolman Brandon T. Raab shield 24. Ptl Raab retires today with over 20 years of dedicated service to our Department and the Village of Goshen community.

Ptl Raab began his career with the Orange County Sheriff's Office on October 30th 2003. He transferred to the Village of Goshen Police Dept in 2006, where he would spend the next two decades serving the residents of Goshen. Throughout his accomplished career, Ptl Raab has received multiple life-saving awards and commendations. He served as an investigator with the OC Child Abuse Task Force and a member of the regional tactical response team.

Ptl Raab spent countless hours strengthening the bond between the Department and the community's young people. He organized bike rodeos, installed child safety seats, coached youth programs, attended community events, and served as the Goshen High School Resource Officer.

Patrolman Brandon T. Raab, we extend our sincere appreciation to you. Thank you for your many years of service.

Congratulations and enjoy your retirement!
