We are grateful that our Goshen College SSTers who were taking three-week courses in Guatemala, London and Hawaii all returned safely yesterday.

Global Literature in London SST students visited the London Central Mosque & Islamic Cultural Centre as part of their exploration of diaspora communities in London. The group returns today, but the course blog lives on! Catch up at https://www.goshen.edu/news/category/study-abroad/.

Students in the Goshen College SST course, Youth and Resilience in Guatemala, visited a family-run chocolate business and learned how they incorporate both traditional and modern methods to produce chocolate.

Students in the on-campus SST course, Latino Community Histories, visited the Goshen Historical Society during the class. They also drew on its resources for research and assisted with volunteer tasks.

The 26 students from the Goshen College baseball team currently taking an SST course in Puerto Rico are enjoying the chance to play baseball in a culture that highly values their sport. They've also spent time in El Yunque National Forest, a tropical rainforest.

Students in Goshen College's SST course, Youth and Resilience in Guatemala, experienced a Guatemalan perspective on democracy by attending a citizen training with Guatemalan peers. They've also been introduced to local Mayan art forms, planted trees, and learned about the life of Monseñor Juan José Gerardi, a Catholic bishop and defender of human rights.

Students in the SST course, Global Literature in London, pack their days with cultural experiences, from the National Gallery to hip hop; from performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream to Oliver! and Driftwood. They also study issues such as class struggles, colonialism, and the ethics related to museum collections that the arts reveal.

Students in the SST course, Environmental Disaster and Response, are helping to rebuild homes destroyed in the 2023 Lahaina fire on Maui. But their work with Mennonite Disaster Service still allows time to visit the beach!

Our Ecuador Study Service Term students arrived in Quito late last night and are now exploring their new location.
