Whether you called him Deputy Chief, Captain, Mike or Kooz an important part of our community was taken too soon from us 12 years ago. Our efforts to continue Cheif Kucsma's Legacy are based purely in recognition of his devotion to this great profession and the members that make it so great. We must always remember those who make lasting impacts within this tight-nit community. Remember Fallen Brothers

Dane Gomberg and Lucas Joslin help run the Kucsma Fire Training Days in Gorham, Maine.
I decided to drive up to check out the events of the day. You could tell that this event is incredibly special to all who was there. Whether they knew Deputy Michael Kucsma or not they all came together to better themselves to honor their fallen Brother.

The team has already set the date for next years event and are looking for local instructors or presenters to fill the roster for training classes.

The date for next year’s training event is April 30th-May 1st.

This is why they continue to come back, this is why they do it...

Michael C. Kucsma Jr, age 43, was a captain of the Portland Fire Department and a deputy chief of the Gorham Maine Fire Department in Maine.
Mike began his fire career as one of the first “live-in” students of the Gorham Fire Department in 1991. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in political science, he worked his way up the ranks of the Gorham Department while making Portland Fire Department his career.

Mike was passionate about the fire service. He created the Rapid Intervention Team training program for the state when he found a gap in this type of training.
If superior training did not exist, he would create and refine a program until it did. He also wrote articles regarding rural firefighting for Firehouse Magazine and served on the board of directors for the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Work Group.

Mike was an amazing man with dedication, humor, drive to be the best, and was just great to be around. He is desperately missed by his family, friends, and brothers and sisters of the fire service.

Last stop of the day at the Kucsma Fire Training Conference, I finished my tour in Hollis,Maine where they were completeing their live burn evolutions.

There was a class of 18 students, each group was able to receive multiple live fire training evolutions.

This group of 4 students were so excited after their training and I just had to get their passion and energy on camera before I left.

I wish them all the luck in their future endeavors and I hope they never stop learning.
🔥🤝

Thank you to Cumberland County Fire Attack School for having for the day. I certainly hope to see you all next year!

And don't forget The Monadnock Fire Conference is right around the corner May 29th-30th. 😎👍
