IMPORTANT

Hey mamas, it saddens me to announce that I will no longer be working with The Lactation Network. Effective next Thursday, May 16th, BCBS of AL (and several other states)
will not cover lactation consults through The Lactation Network.

At this time, I will no longer accept new clients until further notice.

A few things you need to know about hands free pumps!

1. They are not a one size fits all kind of thing!
- As much as I’d love to say they “empty” every mothers breast the same, they don’t.
- Some mothers have great results with hands free, while others may only get half the output compared to their main pump!

2. Hands free pumps are great if this is your only option, or a way to empty “some milk” in between your “main pumps” with your main pump.

3. I do not recommend hands free pumps as your main pump! Especially if you are a pumping only gal, UNLESS you have trialed this and it is comparable with your main pump!

4. You may be reading this and thinking “I love my hands free!”
- I’m so glad you do! However, these pumps don’t always work well for each mother! I caution you when recommending them, especially when you don’t know the mothers milk supply history or breast development!

⭐️ 3 TIPS ⭐️

1. Frequent milk removal, or stimulation to breast!
- this means exactly what it says ⭐️FREQUENT ⭐️ Meaning, don’t wait long hours between putting baby to breast or pumping! Your body produces milk based off of “supply/demand”.

2. Feed baby on demand! Babies are not born on a schedule! While it may drive you a little crazy if you’re a “schedule gal”, this is especially important for babies growth, and your supply! Schedules can come with time, but need to have some flexibility.

3. Get a lactation consultant to work with you on a plan that works for you and your baby!

Let’s talk “spouse support during breastfeeding”

I thought this deserved a post of its own!

A sweet client of mine made it a WHOLE YEAR breastfeeding her little one! Her husband sent her flowers and the sweetest note!

It’s so important to have the support of family! Especially your spouse during your breastfeeding journey!

Each breastfeeding journey is so different! Some more complicated than others. When you have support, it makes a world of difference!

I’m super proud of you! 🥹❤️

Remember, any amount of breastmilk you provide is something to be so proud of!

⭐️ HAND EXPRESSING is so beneficial! ⬇️

❓ What is hand expressing? 👋
- Expression of colostrum or mature milk by using your hands to basically “milk” the breast!

❓ How is this beneficial?

1. Hands are always available, and great tools to help express your colostrum!

2. Hand expression after breastfeeding during the first 24 hours after birth can positively impact your milk supply on days 4-7

3. Hand expressing, if taught correctly, often gets more colostrum compared to using your pump during the first 1-2 days

4. Hand expressing often gives you a little extra to have on hand when baby gets “sleepy”.

⭐️ Side note* this is one of my “favorite” things to teach how to do during a prenatal! Moms feel more confident and comfortable hand expressing when they’ve had practice prior to birthing their little one!
