Regional Connectivity Initiative: Booming Cities Excerpt💥

The Tale of Urban Expansion in Western Maricopa County

From a regional perspective, the west-valley cities of Peoria, Surprise, Buckeye, and Goodyear are poised for significant urban growth. Collectively, these west-valley cities and nearby communities want to work together on regional strategies to conserve the natural heritage of western Maricopa County. These cities are collaborating to align plans for open space, recreation, and the conservation of wildlife habitats in a connected and complementary fashion. All agree that a regional approach to achieving shared goals will result in a higher quality environment for residents and wildlife across the region.

Triple Decker Summer Camp is what happens when three experienced educators get together to teach kids cool stuff. "Ms. Betsy" Andrews Etchart is a public artist, author, art teacher, and founder of ColorWheels; Science Mary Larson has taught physics and math and is our resident expert on everything from the flora and fauna of the White Tanks to the Horsehead Nebula, and "Ms. Shelly" Smith of A Little Drama has brought dance and theater extravaganzas to the West Valley for over twenty years, after her career as a professional ballroom dancer.

She slays!

Deep in the dark, freezing depths of the ocean, scientists witnessed something extraordinary.
At nearly 4,600 feet below the surface, a female deep-sea octopus remained anchored to a single spot for over 4 years (53 months) — the longest egg-brooding period ever documented. During this time, she never left, never hunted, and never ate.

She devoted herself entirely to about 160 fragile eggs, gently cleaning them, fanning them with fresh oxygen-rich water, and bravely driving away potential predators. Even when food drifted past her, she refused it.
As months turned into years, her body slowly weakened and deteriortated. Yet she never abandoned her post.

This remarkable behavior highlights the extreme sacrifices some species make to ensure the survival of the next generation — a powerful reminder that parental devotion is not unique to humans. In the silent darkness of the deep sea, life continues through quiet acts of endurance, patience, and unimaginable selflessness.

Nature doesn’t just survive — it protects, endures, and gives everything for the future. 🌊🐙
