Westar is a collaborative community that champions high levels of learning to inspire innovative problem solvers.

OUR VISION
At Westar, we will take collective responsibility to ensure that all students learn at high levels. Our Goal:

Engage students in project-based learning that focuses on solving relevant, real-world problems. Engage students in learning experiences that require them to think critically, research, write, present, and build 21st century skills. Engage student in music and fine arts while creating a well-rounded student who is socially responsible and will contribute to their community. Provide students with the necessary skills to lead successful and purposeful lives. Develop a passion for reading in students that leads to fluency and opens the gateways to knowledge.

What an amazing night of games on Monday! We are so proud of the way our athletes competed, supported one another, and represented Westar!

🚀✨ Westar Team Spotlight: 1st Grade! ✨🚀

This week, we are excited to celebrate our incredible 1st Grade Team — Ms. J, Ms. Backus, and Ms. Z!
Collaboration is at the heart of this team! You can consistently find them together during their prep time, talking about instruction, sharing ideas, and identifying ways to ensure ALL students are supported and successful.
Step into their classrooms and you’ll see that collaboration come to life! During math, students are thinking critically, problem solving, and using manipulatives to build strong conceptual understanding. During reading, students are engaging with authentic text while developing the foundational reading skills that will set them up for continued success.
We can’t wait to see the growth our 1st grade Comets make this year because of the intentional work happening in these classrooms!

🍎🌋 Our Kinder Comets are SCIENTISTS! 🧪✨

On Thursday, our Kinder students got hands-on with science as they investigated how apples and vinegar can create an apple volcano! 🌋🍎

We LOVE seeing our Comets wonder, explore, ask questions, make observations, and learn by doing! This is what hands-on, engaging learning looks like! 💫

CONNECTION CAFÉ — CONNECT • LEARN • GROW

On Thursday, following our Patriot Day Assembly, we hosted our first Westar Connection Café of the school year! Thank you to all of our families who joined us!

Our Connection Café is all about connection, clarity, and partnership, creating another opportunity to strengthen communication between home and school and for families to hear firsthand about what is happening at Westar and where we are headed as we continue reaching new heights of success.

During our first Café, we connected around our Comets on a Mission • ALL Means ALL vision, learning goals and essential standards, student goal setting, our work toward Purple Star and Schools to Watch recognition, PLCs, behavior and belonging, and the important work happening to keep our Comets safe. Huge shout out to Officer Ben (one of our Westar SSO's), Ms. Robarge (Westar AP), and Ms. Ash (Westar Counselor) for speaking specifically to student behavior supports/systems and campus safety.

We are incredibly grateful for the partnership of our Westar families. When school and home work together, our students are the ones who benefit most!

🌟 TEAM SPOTLIGHT: OUR AMAZING PARAPROFESSIONALS! 🌟

This week, we are shining the spotlight on an incredible group of people who make a difference at Westar every single day, our paraprofessionals!

Our paras show up in a BIG way for some of our highest need students. Their patience, consistency, positivity, flexibility, and genuine passion for students are inspiring. Whether supporting learning, providing interventions, helping in classrooms, or simply jumping in wherever they are needed, they continually go above and beyond.

We are especially grateful for their willingness to grow, learn, collaborate, and always keep students at the center of their work. They are an invaluable part of our Westar family and a perfect example of what ALL Means ALL looks like in action.
