Congratulations to team Desert Titan (Nathaniel Teo, Zachary Wang & Nur Khan) for putting up a world class performance at the AZ Middle School VEX IQ State Championship hosted by Microchip Inc and winning their 4th State Championship in a row! At the teamwork finals they and their alliance partner swept all the elements in the field en-route to a perfect 40/40 score, a new US record! The team was also awarded the Excellence Award for their overall performance (in Design, Programming, Driver skills, Teamwork & STEM project). Their win qualifies them for the VEX Robotics World Championship in Louisville, KY next month (4/28-30). We are very proud of all the hard work & dedication these kids have put in over the months, taking ownership and driving all aspects of the program :)

The AZ VEX IQ state qualifiers wrapped up yesterday at Cooley MS. Both teams had already qualified for the State Championship back in Oct when the 2018/19 season started so this was a final tune-up for State championship with their new designs. Both teams were paired in the finals and won the Teamwork Champion award with a new State high score of 36 (the previous high score of 30 was also set by both teams back in Oct). Our Middle School team, Desert Titan also won the Robot Skills award and their driver & autonomous program scores puts them tied for 24th place in the world rankings. It was a bitter-sweet moment as both teams paired up for the final time in the same tournament before Desert Titan graduates from MS.
Next up: AZ VEX IQ State Championships on 2/23 (Elementary) and 3/9 (Middle School) with a chance to qualify for the VEX Robotics World Championship.

Congratulations to our Elementary team Desert Bot for winning Teamwork Champion at today's AZ VEX IQ Elementary School State Championship in their rookie year! Together with their alliance, team Radioactive, from Microchip they set a new state season record of 227 points. These boys have worked very hard since Nov when they made the tough decision to rebuild the robot with a new design despite having won 2 tournaments early in the season. All that effort paid off and they now get to represent AZ and the USA at the 2018 VEX Robotics World Championship in Louisville KY from 4/29-5/1.

The team was at last weekend's AZ Homeschool Convention to demonstrate VEX IQ and help answer questions about starting a robotics team. It was 2 years ago at the same STEM Opportunities for Homeschoolers booth that inspired us to start our robotics team!
