Week 2 recap!

Photos from DS Young Adults's post 07/24/2023

We’ve officially wrapped up Week 1 in Japan! 🇯🇵 There was so much ministry that happened this week— here are some highlights:

The team put on several VBS programs this week, performing various skits, Bible reading, and activities with kids from the community.

The team visited a school in Kobe, where they were able to share about Arizona, play games, and invite students to youth group at J-House!

They also had the opportunity to visit a Senior home to sing worship songs and to minister to the residents there.

In between all this ministry, the team has been handing out flyers inviting people to events and services at J-House. Please be praying that people come to visit and hear the Gospel!

We can’t wait to see what Week 2 has in store! ❤️

We have a group of YA students headed to Japan this summer! They’ll be providing support to a local church and ministering to the community through outreach events like VBS from July 17th-30th.

🙏 Please be praying for the team as they finish up their training and preparation for the trip. Also, please pray for opportunities to share the Gospel!
❤️ Want to financially support the team? Head to the link in our bio and choose “Team Japan” for the giving option. If you’re giving to a specific student, put their name in the memo section.

We are so proud of our students and look forward to seeing how the Lord uses them this summer!

Happy Easter Sunday! ☀️ Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, we have hope for the future.

We will not be meeting tonight— please take this time to reflect on Jesus’ sacrifice and to rejoice at his victory over sin and death!

Photos from DS Young Adults's post 04/08/2023

“And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split.”
-Matthew 27:50-51 ESV

The temple veil, or curtain, was an important aspect of Judaism. It was massive, about 60 feet high, and made of fine material. Its purpose was to separate the Holy of Holies from the rest of the temple so that God’s presence could rest there.

Once a year, on the Day of Atonement, the high priest would be allowed to enter. He would burn incense and sprinkle the blood of a sacrificed animal on the mercy seat, or cover, of the Ark of the Covenant. This sacrifice would atone for the sins of the Israelites.

When Jesus died on the cross, this curtain was ripped from top to bottom. The veil that represented our separation from God was supernaturally split in two.

As the sacrificial lamb, Jesus' blood covers us. Our sin is forgiven. No longer are we separated from God’s presence— Jesus made a way for us to go directly to the Father.

On this day, we remember the agony of Jesus as his blood atoned for our sins, tearing down the separation between Heaven and Earth.

Tetelestai. It is finished. The veil is torn.

This Sunday is Palm Sunday! This week’s service will be different, because once Jesus completed his task at the end of the week, the world was different. Palm Sunday is a great opportunity for us to remember that.

So join us for a night of considering the last week of Jesus’ life before he went to the cross, celebrating the monumental work that he accomplished there. 🌿

“If marriage shows us the shape of the Gospel, singleness shows us its sufficiency.” (Sam Allberry, 7 Myths of Singleness)

Both are beautiful pictures of God’s love for us. Marriage brings daily opportunities for us to tangibly demonstrate Christlikeness in a covenant relationship. Singleness brings daily opportunities to recognize God’s grace is enough to sustain us and that He is enough.

Photos from DS Young Adults's post 03/10/2023

Join us this weekend as we continue our series “Submitted: What Does the Bible Say About Singleness?”!

Photos from DS Young Adults's post 03/02/2023

For many of us, the topic of singleness is a sore subject. Whether we are single by choice or desiring to be in a relationship, it’s hard to wade through ideas we’ve heard in youth group, from friends, and in the culture at large.

In our new series, we’ll be looking at some passages of scripture to see what the Bible says about this important season of our life. We hope you can make it!

02/26/2023

Happy Sunday! ☀️ We’re wrapping up our February series tonight. We hope to see YA there @ DSCC at 6:30pm!✨

One way that we can engage with the Lord is through worship!

We’re wrapping up our series, “Perspectives”, this week. Our challenge to you is to think about worship from a new angle. It’s not simply just repeating the words we see on the screen, but it is giving back to the Lord through our time, energy, thoughts, resources, and certainly our voices.

We hope you can join us for worship, fellowship, and opening the word together! See YA at 6:30pm. ⭐️

Oftentimes, the only thing that needs to change in order to see what God is doing in our lives is our perspective.

This past Sunday, we looked at the miracle of Jesus from the perspective of Mary.

Mary had (seemingly) everything against her. She was engaged to be married, and yet was pregnant with Jesus. In a culture that treated adultery as a fatal sin, she had every right to be terrified, angry, and resistant to the calling God had placed on her life. Instead, she responded “Let it be to me according to your word.” (Luke 1:38). She willingly chose to trust in the Lord, even praising Him in the midst of her circumstances with a poem of praise.

Mary stepped outside of herself for a moment—outside of her own present circumstance, and was able to see how God was working in her life. Through her obedience, we are able to see how the rest of the story played out; with Jesus ultimately defeating sin and death to reconcile us to God. But it is because she stepped outside of her own life situation and chose to have a different perspective.

As you go about this holiday season, take time to pause and reflect on the goodness of God in your life. Step outside of your circumstances—however dire, however difficult, or however improbable, just long enough to recognize that the Lord is for you, and His plan is greater than any we can imagine if we only choose to say “Let it be to me as you have said”.

If you are interested in learning more about this trip, there is an info meeting this Sunday 12/4 at 12:30pm in Room 206. We encourage you to pray and consider coming with us to Japan next year!

Good morning! ☀️

Last week, we wrapped up our series on Philemon. In case you missed it, scroll to see the main takeaways from our series!

Photos from DS Young Adults's post 08/17/2022

By and large, the hope of Jesus in telling these stories and addressing these problems is that his audience would take ownership of their faith. Doing so involves choosing to trust in Jesus alone for forgiveness of sin, resolving to learn about who Jesus is, and deciding to act as he acted, serve as he served, and see people how he sees people.

And why would we choose to listen to him and take ownership of our faith? Because he promises that when we do, we will experience the abundant life that he has in store for us on this earth. And because when we do, we will be able to hear that “Well done, good and faithful servant” when we see him face to face one day.

Last week, we looked at the Parable of the Two Sons (Matthew 21:28-32). We learned that the Christian is not characterized by how often they go to church, read their Bible, pray, or serve in a ministry. Rather, it is how often they choose to do the will of the Father.

What are some things the Lord has put on your heart? What is a step you can make in obedience to that calling?

Photos from DS Young Adults's post 07/17/2022

We kicked off our “Parables of Jesus” series last week with the story of the Prodigal Son.

We learned how we sometimes can be like the Prodigal Son- we make willful, bad decisions and walk away from God. But, even when we walk away, God is ready to embrace us when we come home.

Sometimes, we are like the older brother in the story- we look at “those people” who “go off the deep end” and question why we should celebrate them when they come back when we’ve been faithful all along. With this attitude, we miss God’s heart for the lost and we forget that we are just as lost without the father’s love. We should celebrate when our brothers and sisters come back home to the Father just as the Father, himself, does—running to meet us.

Jesus is the Way home when we’re lost, the Truth in our confusion, and the Life in the face of our death; He just wants us to be home.

While we love spending time with everyone on Sundays, it’s important that we make time to connect with one another during the week! Whether it’s basketball or chatting over coffee, it’s those in-between moments that build community.

This week, we encourage you to spend some time with a friend. Be intentional about asking about their life and sharing what’s on your heart. Imagine the type of community we could create if we pursued those friendships with one another!

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” - John 13:34-35

A couple of weeks ago, we spent some time in Philippians 3 and Hebrews 11 learning about the value of knowing Jesus as our savior, citizenship, and the promise of Heaven.

This Fourth of July, is it all about fireworks, burgers, flags, and pool parties? Or, could it be about exercising our freedoms of speech and religion in our daily lives by sharing our faith with our family and friends who do not know Jesus?

We hope that you not only consider these things as you celebrate today, but also in your everyday life.

Uniting Students with Jesus

Every student comes face to face with a heavy decision, a decision that will affect every moment following, a decision that requires one single action; uniting with Jesus.

DS College believes that uniting with Jesus is the greatest decision any student can make when learning to navigate adulthood. Scripture reveals to us that Jesus prayed for His church to be united to each other and to Him for the purpose of glorifying our righteous Father. He calls us into a relationship, one centered around His own works and not our own. He asks for complete obedience with the promise of sweet freedom, and by uniting with Him, there remains nothing to hold us down or keep us away from God-glorified living.

Join us as we seek unity with Jesus sunday nights at DS College.
