This might be a good time to share how Alpine Folk School was born.
I love doing things! Everything! Anything! I love sharing and helping. So, putting that all together just seems natural to me. I’ve had something like holding workshops in mind for quite some time. Over the last 30 years I’ve had friends to my home for soap making and other projects. It’s always fun!! And, yes, I was one of those kids who had a home-ec class in high school. Why don’t we have those anymore? 🤔 Since we’ve been hit with the viral pandemic I saw how many people never learned skills that we can fall back on during times like these. Sewing, food preservation, bread making, good old-fashioned skills our grandparents lived with. These are things you learn and use for a lifetime!
The actual workshop has been a labor of love. I have to begin by thanking my husband, Greg, for all the hours and months of back breaking work he put into making me so happy with this.
I wanted my workshop to be a getaway. I wanted it to be comfortable, fun, and inviting. If you step in, want to sit down with a cup of coffee and never leave, I accomplished my goal! But, it also had to be functional on many different levels. We have spent hours brainstorming about where things had to be placed for convenience, storage issues, utilities, equipment, safety... it seemed like when we got one issue sorted out another one would pop up. It might always be a work in progress. I’ve collected vintage equipment and supplies because I love beautiful old things and giving them new life. We made many things in the shop from scratch! We also got lucky with some good, old fashioned ... garbage picking 😂. Let me tell you, finding eight, inexpensive, functioning sewing machines is a chore!
I can’t wait to have a shop full of friends, sharing, learning; enjoying some of the fine, forgotten things in life.
