Your life is what you make it no matter where you come from. Make yourself proud of who you are and how far you’ve come , each and everyday 🤟🏼

5 things I wish I knew before joining the trades as a woman :

#1) Feelings aren’t on the tool list ;

don’t ever let what anyone says onsite get to you. Take it with a grain of salt. Also, ladies… the men don’t care that we’re on our period or that our hormones are off balance or that our feelings may have been hurt 🤣😬 so toughen up buttercup & never act like anything bothers you

#2) You don’t have to act like a man to get paid like one (speaking as a union member) ;

I can’t speak for the non-union side… but in the union men and women are equals. Your gender doesn’t determine your wage, and you don’t have to act like one of the guys just to get the respect. You can still be feminine and kill it in the trades. You don’t have to become someone you’re not just to fit in.

#3) You WILL be alone onsite at some point, but you’re never the only one ;

there will be times where you’re the only female onsite and the first time it happens can be intimidating. Keep your head up and work hard. You belong here sis!

#4) They WILL test you;

being a woman onsite can be intimidating to some men. Not because you’re not good enough.Because they want to see if you’ll quit
Show up early.Tools ready. Don’t whine. Don’t quit on a bad day. You outlast the test you earn the respect.

5) Men’s gear IS a safety hazard;

Men’s small is NOT women’s fit. Invest early: women’s boots, real work bibs, gloves that actually fit your hands. If your PPE doesn’t fit, you can’t work safe
