⭐️ Making history, one voice at a time!
When people look back on this bill becoming law, they'll see votes, committee meetings, amendments, and a governor's signature. ✍🏽
What they won't see is the courage of a young girl who stood before lawmakers and told them why her school matters. 🫶🏻
While adults debated policy, one of our Journey Learning Academy students shared her story. She spoke about her experiences, what she loves about learning, and why places like JLA make a difference in the lives of students like her.
It would have been easy to stay home. It would have been easy to let the adults do the talking. Instead, she stepped up and used her voice.
Watching her testify was one of the proudest moments of this entire journey. She reminded everyone in the room what this bill was really about—not buildings, regulations, or paperwork, but children.
To our sweet student: thank you for your courage, your confidence, and your willingness to stand up for something bigger than yourself. You helped make a difference, and you will always be part of this story. 💙 Doretha Richey

🎉 A big day for JLA! 🎉
Today we attended the Governor's signing of the Parent-Driven Learning Cooperative bill as it officially became law.
✨ Louisiana now recognizes parent-driven learning microschools like JLA. ✨
We're honored to have been part of this journey and excited for what it means for families across our state.

🎉 Exciting News for Journey Learning Academy! 🎉
This Friday, we have been invited to attend the Governor's signing of Louisiana's Parent-Driven Learning Cooperative bill.
We are honored to have been part of the conversation that helped bring recognition to parent-driven learning microschools and cooperatives across our state.
For years, families have sought educational options that are flexible, personalized, and centered around the unique needs of each child. This legislation recognizes that parent-driven learning communities have an important place in Louisiana's educational landscape.
✨ The state finally has a name for what we've been doing all along: a parent-driven learning microschool. ✨
While this law won't change the day-to-day experience at JLA, it does provide recognition for the model that has allowed our students to learn, grow, and thrive in a small, supportive environment.
We are grateful to the families, students, legislators, and supporters who helped make this possible. Most of all, we're thankful for the opportunity to serve the incredible children and families of our community.
We look forward to representing JLA at the signing ceremony and sharing this special moment with all of you.

The Diocese of Baton Rouge Child Nutrition Program is pleased to announce the availability of free Grab-and-Go meal services for children this summer, helping ensure families have access to nutritious meals while school is out of session.
Meals will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis through a convenient drive-thru service at designated distribution sites across the diocese.
